Album Review: Gorgon City Build You A Summer “Escape”

At The Rooftop at Output, Gorgon City presented new songs from their album, Escape, which comes out August 10. It was the perfect place to introduce the purpose of this album. Amongst fried eats, flavored margaritas, and rows of people reliving their work week while gazing at the Brooklyn Skyline, Escape became the soundtrack to escapism.

At times, music can feel like an escape hatch from your life, but, to me, the best escapes come from purely, electric rhythms. Gorgon City delivered as such by creating an album that feels born from the sun, bathed in the ocean, and laid out on a pearled, sandy beach. “Kingdom ft. Raphaella,” “One Last Song ft JP Cooper” and “Love Me ft. Lulu James” are straight up club-bangers. Providing the crowd with a feeling of bright danger swirled with fun; as if you at a secret warehouse party in Ibiza. While, by all means, we go to the club to dance, people, like at Output, treat this space/ moment as liberation. Gorgon City fully understood that in the nighttime is when people feel most free, but, in the summer nights, is when they feel wild.
Gorgon City x D Double E – Hear That [Music Video] | GRM Daily

There is an added layer of vibrancy to the summer nightlife. The heat and lesser clothes, for some reason, makes people bolder and more eager to be seen. This turns “Night Drive ft Kelli Kiara” and “Let Go ft. Naations” into commands; you better go enjoy your nightlife and let go of your daytime. Such a vivacious, but seedy dynamic churns their trop undercurrents with trap, machine-like beats: highlighting the virtual nature of Gorgon City’s sound. This duo presses rhythms with rapid digital hammers, but Escape feels more brushed than bounced. Again, if Gorgon City’s previous works were made for the night, Escape was made for the summer nights.
Gorgon City, Kamille, Ghosted – Go Deep

At Output, it was apparent that Gorgon City’s newest music is rich, warm, and textured to ignite people “joie de vivre.” Moreover, every featuring artist is perfect in furthering passions. From Chenai in “Never Enough” to Kamille in “Go Deep,” you can already feel the strobe lights upon your skin as you dance with the guy or gal you like because why not? To Gorgon City, for a night, lust and attraction can be powerful goals. For More Information On Gorgon City And To Buy Escape On August 10 Click Here.
