Concert Review: Spooky Cool Show Desire Is Crazy At Baby’s All Right

Spooky Cool’s show at Baby’s All Right was quick, strange, and to the point. The rising group are ready to build melodies that sound off for lyrics that also “sound off.”  When it comes to Spooky Cool, they really live up to their name.

Led by Zac Hryciak, he embodies what this band wishes to vibe. He is goofy, self-deprecating, and completely non-chalant. He swigs his beer and guitar with a carefree attitude, and laughs that only his family has filled the audience. Yet, it is that type of balance between silly, scary, and serious that marks Spooky Cool. Live, their instrumentals play a lot harder like, a benevolent nightmare; trying to spark within viewers that life really is crazier but, maybe, you can out-crazy it.

Yes, I know that is the oldest, failed trick in the book: out-crazing crazy. Yet, “crazy” is such as vast term. It is not just about losing your mind as much as losing your worry. “Black Wine” to “Old Hair Mine,” you really did get to hear, in concert, more of their messages and feels. For a band confronting the toxicities of desire, they also reveal their manifestation: worry. The more you want the more you worry because anxiety is not born from stressing over what you have as much as fearing that you will not gain. Thus, it makes sense that they wailed in guitars, drums, and harmony: desire is not quiet.

At Baby’s All Right, Spooky Cool achieved the ultimate goal of anyone trying to scale upwards on the music scale; they left an impression. They relaxed and cohesive in their talents; taking to the stage like a group of friends that see band are made not simply by sharing a common sound as much as common spirit.
