Concert Review: Sasha Sloan Is Bowery’s Sad Girl

Before Sasha Sloan entered to entertain her packed crowd at Bowery Ballroom, the catalogue of Hillary Duff was on blast. It has been awhile since I heard “Come Clean,” but listening to Hillary before the the rising “sad girl” came on was impactful because there is an interconnection. To her fans, Sasha Sloan is the coolest person to know what it is to be a “loser.”

Like Hillary Duff, you look at Sasha Sloan, and think, “If someone was able to make you feel bad about yourself, then we are all screwed!” She epitomizes a casual swag that is fostered by her vulnerability, which is a woman’s dream. We would love to live in a world where ladies were all fashionably free and emotionally esteemed. Tracks like, “This Town,” “Normal,” “Runaway,” and “Older” sung to feeling better than what you are getting from others. Whether it be your surrounding friends, community, a lover, or yourself, every person knows what it is to confirm  that you are getting the “short end of a stick,” and, for Sasha, music helps her understand why.

She is a mixture of shy and welcoming, which only furthers her fans’ love. They saw Sasha as “their girl;” the one they text, after work, to have a happy hour and discuss the men in their life that are not understanding their power. This dynamic electrifies the concert ambiance with an excited ease; similar to the yelps of joy you hear every time a group of girlfriends see each other at the bar. (lol!). Yet, this bond allows Sasha to become powerful and paced. From her vocals to her strolls across the stage, she proves to simmer is to shimmer. She drips her verses and sways like diamonds falling in slow motion, which makes her audience burst in energy over how chill her vibes emanate.

Sasha Sloan – Faking It (Official Video)

Vocally, Sasha plushes her notes; allowing them to be low, fluffed, and inviting to an audience that is their for catharsis. In a way, Sloan’s performance has a paradoxical effect; igniting her crowd to combust over frequencies that are soothing and acknowledging of self-hate. Yet, it all works to promote her messages of being wonderful and in wonder, despite those that think you are not. For More Information On Sasha Sloan Click Here.
