Concert Review: Sigrid Lives Her Best Life In Brooklyn Steel

A lot of people in this world don’t want to say that dreams don’t come true. The irony of Sigrid living her dream life is that, in a way, she sings to that. At Brooklyn Steel, Sigrid sang to a packed crowd that the key to strength is not to make your dreams come true, but to keep dreaming even after they don’t.

Sometimes, it takes a concert to realize the meat of someone’s messages, of which many of Sigrid’s songs sang a to effort. From “Sucker Punch” to “I Don’t Want To Know” Sigrid punched the air and swung her ponytail like a comicbook hero from The Umbrella Academy, and the audience loved it because, in a way, we could relate. Sigrid represented every girl that fought the “villain” in their head, grabbed a hairbrush to give a concert to their stuffed animals, and told herself to try love again when “the one” turned out to be “another one.” She has a personality that blends confidence with uniqueness.

Through tracks like, “Don’t Kill My Vibe,” “Don’t Feel Like Crying,” and “Strangers,” you get the vibe that Sigrid is being herself on that stage, and that is the biggest thing she can be. There is no alter ego to her because her spirit is big enough, which is amazing considering that she is simply a sweet, quirky young woman. It is as if the “magic” to Sigrid is that she makes the people, especially the young ladies admiring her, feel like being silly, fun, and singing out in the open is your authentic self. Still, this discovery of “The Power of Sigrid” was brought on by the epically, colorful lighting and the electric energy of the room.

Sigrid – Schedules (Lyric Video)

Every song of Sigrid’s contained a strange danceability by making you want to choreograph your emotions. It is as if joy deserved a high-kick and a smile while the jealousy of others deserved a swing of this hips and a hair toss. Meanwhile, her voice streamlines through notes with the potency to reach an ocean of range, and turns her concert into  further justification over how vastly popular she is becoming. Sigrid uses her performance as a presentation to any potential jury that she is a presence that is more than meets the eye, which, again, matches the themes of her songs.
