Concert Review: Slenderbodies Create Alchemy At Bowery Ballroom

Throughout ancient history, alchemy was the philosophical marriage of science and spiritualism. It was the belief that the higher you raise your mind and soul, the more your body and the earthbound issues you must face become clearer. Thus, in essence, knowledge is a soulful power: not a mental one. With how Slenderbodies played Bowery Ballroom, the theory has a point.

With a kaleidoscope of images that turned bare walls into Met-worthy paintings, Slenderbodies created a concert experience: not a show. It was as if the duo had realized music is a drug, and for that they had to up their sound and style so as to enter an audience’s bloodstream. Imagine that! Being able to inject music so as to feel higher, and never worry over sickening side-effects or overdosing dangers. In music lies a world of unspoken knowledge, which explains why their verses felt like simple pulses. They ignite thoughts for you to finish them, and their show could ignite an ETERNAL conversation.

Slenderbodies’ show taught me an obvious lesson that I am, currently, realizing even more. You have to up your concert in production, value, and vision. Time and money, of course, help you, but such an investment really does pays off for the goer. More than ever, Slenderbodies’ show reflected them unto the crowd. They are a groovy, smooth group that pats rhythms like furs, and packs images like forests. Everything about their showcase felt sensory, including Max’s voice. Previously, I had compared it to sweet milk, but in this show it was morel like the sweet milk from Tattooine. They were going beyond this planet/ the universe to create a vibe that was strangely and beautifully blank.

You ever see those movies that portray Heaven like a completely white room: not a smudge or stain across its eternal walls. It is as if there is so much to Heaven that, to display it, would be insufficient; it needs to be blank. While, in their show, there is a lot displayed in image and guitar melodies that seep into your heart like medicine, you, ultimately, feel clear. Yet, this is far from a bad thing. In show, Slenderbodies prove that alchemy is about achieving so much you become everything, and, in that, you do not need definition. For More Information On Slenderbodies Click Here.
