Concert Review: Sofi Tukker Is Getting HUGE At Avant Gardner
Two sold out nights at Avant Gardner. That means 10,000 New Yorkers paid to see Sofi Tukker play, and they were relishing the accomplishment. I have followed their career since its beginning, evengetting to interview them, and they were always ambitious. Two people that felt in their guts that their names would be in lights. Through the highs and lows, and even across continents, Sofi Tukker stuck to their Brazilian inspired sound to bring dance back into the dancefloor.
As a person who loves to club, sometimes,I wish there was more dancing. In the EDM world, it can feel more like swaying or going crazy with glow-sticks. Yet, I am a rhythmic Latina. I want choreography even if the last thin I can pick up is a 1,2 step. Sofi Tukker are for the choreographers or the people that don’t care if they look like grape juice when they try to do the grapevine. I am talking about DANCERS or wannabes. Hence, it is no wonder that there production and performance have sky-rocketed.

You can tell in their music, style, and even personalities that Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern are visionaries. Their jungle pop sound splashes with color in every beat, which is why the massive stage filled with animals, leaves, florals, and video of each felt like a Broadway set. You were entering their world, and they were as happy as the crowd to have company. The way they shook their booties and pranced around the stage felt like a celebration of bodies and the hearts that feel unconfined by them. Hence, why they are the show for people who want to dance under AMAZING visuals.

The show had everything: purple hats, inflatable animals, and, again, glow-sticks. The audience looked as if they had bought a ticket Disney-land and were surprised when they found Disney World.
