Concert Review: Spencer Sutherland Brings His Sweater To BK

GIIIIIRRRRLLLLL! I clutched my pearls watching Spencer Sutherland hit the HIGHEST NOTES! Everytime he jumped an octave, I grabbed my throat in protection. This man will do anything squeeze out a note for emotional pulp; pumping his songs like freshly- squeezed orange juice to go with your morning breakfast. Yes, there are artists for the night, but Spencer feels like the songs you hear to start your day and your next relationship.

At Knitting Factory, the ladies lined up for Spencer Sutherland like he was Shawn Mendes giving a free concert at MSG. They were ravenous and I was shook. First, I knew Spencer could sing but the man can, actually, SANG! There is a very Mark Ronson/ Amy Winehouse flare to his music and voice; giving a 1950’s heartbreak to his pop sound. Sure you may “twist and shout” to songs such as, “Sweater,” “Talk” and “Freaking Out,” but, in being retro, he feels modern. If there is one thing anyone between the ages of 13 and 33 have in common, which was the age range of his crowd, it is our penchant for vintage. We love a thrift store where we can basically walk out looking like we ransacked the the closet of a 1930’s audeville show or, at least, a HAIR revival.

Spencer Sutherland – It May Sound Strange (Official Video)

As a performer, Sutherland is sooooo smooth. He is the ripe mix of humble and wryly flirtatious. He knew hat the audience loved him. In perspective, it must be invigorating having a group of people sing your songs and treat you like a god. That crowd thought Spencer Sutherland was a living pearl of talent; shiny and whole in pure vocality. Moreover, his songs were so deliciously pop in how they sung to the ones that wronged us in love. In a way, pop music is about self-pity, and how, sometimes, you need to feel bad for yourself while knowing you MUST move on. Thus, leave it to Spencer Sutherland’s good beats to make sure your heart beats again. For More Information On Spencer Sutherland Click Here.
