Concert Review: Super City Feel Like Human Gods At Soho House
Image is such a strange thing to adhere to. When you see an artist off the stage, they are so human versus, when on the stage, they become like humanity itself, i.e. gods. When your music taps into a bit of humanity so clearly or vivaciously, in being so human, you become godlike: a speaker for every person that thought what you thought or wants to feel, at all times, what you give them in a moment. At Soho House, Super City felt as such.
Soho House is INTIMATE! Bands are so close to the crowd or walk amongst “us” before the performance, that the veil between audience and artist feels strangely thinned. Thus, seeing Super City prepping or talking to friends; only to walk on and become their “alter egos” was fascinating. It was like watching a switch go from off to on, and having an internal discussion on what is light. Yet, for Super City, the stage is key to human reinvigoration. They stomp their feet, sway their hips and guitar in place, shimmy up and down, and line up in “a row of sorts,” as if they were The Beatles coming to America.
Super City – Artificial Sin (Official Video)
Super City is a rock-pop army of resilience with their sole weapon being fun in the face of adversity. They are crisp and choreographed in their presentation of concerted wildness and precise resistance. Doing certain movements at the exact moment or tiering harmonies like a dance-induced scale of justice. Vocally led by Dan Ryan and Greg Wellham, Greg’s voice is steady and raw while Dan’s swirls and shines; both balancing emotions and allurement. Hence, tracks like “Sanctuary,” “Vulture,” and “Artificial Sin” challenge you to rethink what is sin and is what safe by lyrically protesting any definition that did not involve your voice in its composition.

Personality, zeal, and specificity, Super City knows what they want to say, how they want to present it, and what they want to give to their audience. They, literally, encourage people to have a good time and, certainly, have one themselves by playing to people’s inner desires of wanting to be magnetic while also wanting to be moved by others.
