Concert Review: Tall Heights Are Loved At Forest Hills Stadium
I like a good sense of humor with a big sense of heart. Tall Heights always bring their wit, but its their heart (music) that happily perplexes people. How can these funny buddies also be the creators of music that is 100% about being in your feelings? Yet, at their Forest Hills Stadium show, they symbolized why good humor is a needed veil for darker times.
From “Fire Escape” to “Spirit Cold,” Tall Heights introduced their newer music with a newer confidence. It is no secret that they love Ben Folds, and he loves them; even asking the duo to back him on stage. While I have seen Tall Heights a few times, they have grown so much in confidence and sheer settlement into their talent. They have always been good, but now they have an aura that says, “I have accomplished and will continue to accomplish.” How you present yourself is everything, and, in seeing this duo grow, I could tell that they are feeling certain about how they make the crowd feel good.
Tall Heights – The Deep End (Official Video)
“Midnight Oil”,” “The Deep End,” and “Not Like It Was” all play to a sense of longing for both what you had and what you thought you would gain. Sometimes, I find I miss the hope of wanting something, and the belief I would actually achieve it over the cold reality that will, work, and want can still leave you and high and dry. If their first album, Neptune, played to that notion, their newer work elaborates it with a more concise, even “dancier” feel. They are taking their folk-desert vibes and shining them on the dance-floor. Moreover, their lyrics still discuss what it is to feel “stuck in life,” but, now, toy with the idea of not fighting that “stuckness” as much. Maybe, we need to feel stuck or sliding on on a slippery slope as part of our ride to defining “the top.”
Tall Heights – Not Like It Was (Lyric Video)
It may seem strange, but in subtly changing their themes, their sounds, and their demeanors, Tall Heights even feel different as vocalists. They sound even more vaped in emotions; as if you could sentiment. Yet, this is not bad, at all. Their harmonies bend and twist like a symphonic, delicious twizzler. Frankly, they exemplify an artist growing into their rising success. No prosperous artist maintains their riches by staying stagnant, and this duo is living up to their name to achieve Tall Heights!
