Concert Review: Ten Fe Makes Me Keep My Faith In Myself At Mercury Lounge

I dig Ten Fe. Yes, I used an alternate, archaic 1970’s term to say “ I like”, but Ten Fe make me want to go back to the days when men wore their hair long, their shirts embroidered, and carried a guitar around like a suitcase. I reviewed their album, Hit The Light, as a positive, prosperous record trying to reignite your faith in yourself/ life, and I am happy to say their concert did the same.

It is hard not to like a cool person, and it is even less harder not to feel re-affirmed by them. When you go see Ten Fe, see their warm smiles, their giddy song-plays, and high energy, you feel like you are having a chance-encounter with Amazing; if “amazing’! were an actual entity. You cannot help but absorb their motto and music of embracing the light of your spirit and days to the point that “darkness” get pushed out. For lead singer, Ben Moorhouse positivity is like a pillow that you hug so tightly that it becomes imprinted with you; in essence, it is about how your goodness is unique to you. It is a refreshing idea as, usually, we think of positivity like a “mystical molder” of our being rather than an individual call to be great for and to all. Such a lyrical and personal perspective made their concert a bright spot of my day/ life. I wanted Leo Duncan to become my singing guru, of which he would pop up in my most “down” moments to play “Twist Your Arm” and “Make Me Better”. His voice is like a casual, spiritual outreach to empowerment that says, “Hey, remember all those times I swore I wanted to feel good but then dwelled on misery. Yeah, I’m done with that.” (lol!). A funny, but common notion that Ten Fe’s Ben Moorhouse’s easy vocals seemingly obliterates through a show that makes you dance at the happy meeting of electricity and sound.
Ten Fé – Elodie (Official Video)

Ten Fe played “Elodie”, “Overflow” , and “Turn” like their instruments had drunk a pack of red-bulls. They jolt and sway like electric currents were coursing through them, which, in essence, fits with their notion of letting light in. When we all picture Light, as a force, entering our life, it feels like a peaceful hug the makes us quiver from happiness and serenity. It is crazy to see how great things can make us quake and quell even more than “bad things”. Nowadays, it is easy to feel like only “horror” can leave us keeled over and shaking in awe, but, like their name, Ten Fe shows you that faith can move you, as well.
