Concert Review: Tessa Violet Goes From Youtube To Brooklyn Steel
I am mildly obsessed with Youtube stars that became mega stars like, Troye Sivan or Issa Rae. When you upload a video of yourself to Youtube, it is because you believe you have something to say, and you hope others will hear it, share it, and demand you say more. It is a dynamic born from straight hope and optimism, which is why Tessa Violet seemed right to portray such sentiments at Brooklyn Steel.
There was no denying the Youtube Fandom at BK Steel, which is surprisingly strong and vast. It could compete with other cultural phenomena, like comic books, in feeling like a “hidden” movement that is in in your face. The minute you mention one “Youtuber,” someone will pop up to say they prefer “him” or “her”. Still, like the aforementioned artists, Tessa Violet is not just a “Youtube Star.” She uses the platform to launch herself into others’ worlds as most people hope to do. At Brooklyn Steel, the “other world” was music, and it is a vast, magnifying universe that made Violet appear human.
Youtube has surreal quality to it that can make vlogging about your make-up routine seem like you are teaching how unicorns make rainbows. Everything seems so heightened in their segments, and, despite the favor and immense supportiveness of the crowd, Tessa’s show felt amazingly insular. There with her guitar, front and center, Tessa’s colorful songs felt like the private anthems a young woman sings when she wants to remember she is beautiful even in the face of others’ ugliness. Hence, tracks like “Crush,” “Haze,” and “Interlude III” felt like sweet plums bursting with fruited joy, which totally matched the Youtube crowd.
Violet balances her Youtube Fandom and her intimate goals, as a songwriter, by being both personal and inevitably fantastical in presence. People REALLY wanted to see her, as if she was a film icon, and she used that urge to reveal even stars need to learn to glow. Nobody is born shining, but they learn to do so by realizing they have a light. With a voice that unequivocally simple and unfettered, the earnestness of her being/ vocality delivers this messages to young girls that need it. For More Information On Tessa Violent Click Here.
