Concert Review: The Vegabonds Savor Country Music At Brooklyn Bowl
The Vegabonds are a text-book definition of a good show. Most of us, after work, look for, at least, an hour of escapism. From television to a book, and, when are feeling adventurous, a concert, we invest in entertainment to add a spiritual jolt to our day.The Vegabonds’ show a Brooklyn Bowl crowd they are the type of artists you see when you need to be reminded that feeling good can happen after hard work.
The Vegabonds are pure country rock, which readers KNOW I ride for like my soul was a four-wheeler. Yet, more importantly, they are a good time. With spotlights blazing, they all frolicked on the stage as if life could be better, which, in turn, made the crowd feel the same. If you have ever been to Brooklyn Bowl it is a spacious scene, with America’s past-time of bowling on the side, and a wealth of beer, fried chicken, and Texas toast. To go to Brooklyn Bowl in NYC is to get a light taste of Southern Hospitality, which is why the crowd was poof that country music has love in the Big Apple. The audience dance, swayed, and cheered beers as lead singer Daniel Allen sung tracks like, “Where We Used To Go”, “Long Haired Boy”, and “Best of Me” like they were Southern legends on how men have dealt with love and heart-ache. He sings every track like they are the biggest news to hit the paper, which is refreshing because love is the oldest topic of music. From how love beautifies to betrays you, similar to Jamestown Revival, The Vegabonds serve country music that puts love on a skillet. As the grease drips so do verses that show how indigestible feeling for another person can be if they are either a) do not love you or b) you do not love yourself. One-party relationships never work, but to The Vegabonds, we still manage to try to turn a known failure/ bad formula into a winning one.The way Allen gurgles and gargles his voice is like he is savoring The Vegabonds’ lyrics, and shows why country is one of the staple/ sacred music genres; sometimes, you need to dig into the dirt of your feelings to see how you can grow from them again.
The Vegabonds are a hard review because they are easily a good show, and I always say some of the best artists are the ones you have to see to believe. They are musicians that cross the bounds of definition because they cross the bounds of happiness. There are many times when you want to stress to fade as quickly as it blossoms, and The Vegabonds, for being a band that sings to the stresses of love and life, sure know how to make stress leave your heart for an hour.
