Concert Review: Tkay Maidza Is The Definition Of Fun At Irving Plaza

Tkay Maidza lit Irving Plaza UP. The fierce rapper/singer flowed through her debut album’s hits, and transformed the dance-floor into a workout room. Some artists aim to make you move, but this UK star wants to make you MOVE!!!!!
Tkay Maidza – Simulation

Usually, when you go to the dancefloor, its just people swaying and wooing, which I am not remarking in judgement. I will woo and sway with the best of them. but Maidza asks you to do a workout. She escalate rhythms into riddims by using trop-hop styles in songs “Tennies” and “Simulation”. Being a Caribbean queen myself, whenever I hear a dutty beat-drop, I understand it as a rallying call to “get down”. As I looked upon the crowd assuming they would just “sway” the night away, their faces moved into a happy surprise as Maidza’s music brought out a new side to their rhythmic capacities. There is no denying hip motion as she flows through her mixes like the coolest kid in the schoolyard. She has a “jumpy” style as if the back-drop to her songs “Follow Me” or “Afterglow” are jump-ropes she scales in child-like glee. The way she dances through  and emanates her verses makes your soul patty-cake in an innocent, pure happiness . It was for this reason that Maidza was so unabashedly fun.
Tkay Maidza – Follow Me

There is clean, potent joy to Tkay Maidza that truly impressed me. I cannot use any other term but “fun” to encapsulate her concert.  The songstress is extremely friendly, and wearing her own fitness outfit should have been a symbol to me that we were going to dance like our bodies were made for such forceful movement. As she joked with crowd and radiated in excitement to be in front of a New York crowd, I marked Maidza as an artist to watch and a concert to see again. While many musicians rightfully rise up for a good time, Tkay Maidza elevates the crowd for a fun one. For More Information On Tkay Maidza Click Here.
