Concert Review: Wet Sings Through The Snow At Brooklyn Steel
Watching Wet, I had a moment of irony! As lead singer Kelly Zutrau talked about wanting to show her personality more and how she was so nervous, I had just mentioned to my friend, earlier, how Wet’s music feels like sonic medicine for those suffering from anxiety. Every song is a realization of an affirming want or need, and Kelly sings like a person discovering the necessary moves you make to get better.
Wet – Old Bone (Official Video)There are the goals we give ourselves, swearing they will bring us happiness, and then there are the apparent changes we need to make to feel better. Wet plays to both, and the growing epiphany that, while we wait for dreams to come true, we cannot tear our reality. Zutrau has a voice that unpacks this truth with a calming kindness. Hearing her through tracks, “11 Hours,” “Don;t Wanna Be Your Girl,” and “Still Run” was like having someone gently put their hand on your soul and say, “Hey! Are you okay?” She is soothing, and her personality is equally kind. In this concert she was way more talkative and eager to share than in previous shows, and no one minded because sweet people never get enough attention.
Wet – Lately (Official Video)In a world that is constantly asking, “Why do haters hate?” Wet asks “Why do lovers love?” We are so eager to observe whether monsters are nurtured and naturalized, but, perhaps, the only way to figure out how a villain becomes a villain is to see how you become a hero. In essence, the only way to figure out how Hate becomes hate in others is to see how love becomes in you. It is a beautiful thought that Wet nuances through songs such as, “Body,” “Softens,” “This Woman Loves You,” and “There’s A Reason.” The latter making Kelly laugh because someone claimed it was a love song to Trump. It was actually about a person calling for compassion and love for those in need….so it was not for him.
Wet – There’s a Reason (Official Video)The key to a Wet show is that their electro rhythms ask you to rest. Every melody, combined with Kelly voice, asks you to give into your needs so as to have the strength to get your wants. With tracks like “You’re The Best” it’s hard not to give in and say, for now, leave the anxieties at the door. For More Information On Wet Click Here.
