Concert Review: Wolf Parade Are Proud Socialists And I Feel The Bern!
“We need full on socialism now!” yelled Dan Boeckner as they smiled through their audio issues. Finally, they had come out and Brooklyn Steel was ready for a literal Wolf Parade. Yet, it seemed like the instruments were not, which only made fellow lead singer, Spencer Krug laugh and share his appreciation for the amazingly talented Jo Passed, whom is on tour with them. Yet, that moment defined the night, made me feel Bernie Sanders spirit in the air, and, probably, triggered a bunch of people and Mayor Pete, who have NO IDEA what socialism means or that their social security is dependent on it.

The reason the moment defined the night and got the audience cheering is because it revealed a hidden virtue to Wolf Parade’s rock: compassion. From “Out of Control” to “Fall Into The Future,” their songs call out a world that cries and even lies about kindness but fails to enact it. They are not for those eager to be praised for looking good without being it, and, frankly, the world needs to get called out on that. Yet, the thing that makes Wolf Parade so special is that they prove the truth does not have to be ugly, even when its dark, because music is light in itself. Thus, every one of their tracks gut0busted through that arena as they were equivalents to flying cannonballs.
Wolf Parade – Against the Day
First, I am a major Dan Boeckner fan. His voice deserves a chef’s kiss for its ability to make notes feel like something you can taste, and Drug killed it in delivering a vocality that felt as smooth as his keyboard. They are each exceptional musicians that have reached a point in both their careers and lives where “rocking out” is casual. It is their very nature, which is why their rebelliousness and compassion did not feel forced. Instead, it was a soothing statement; one that was iterated over kaleidoscopic images and chords and drumrolls that felt a forest of sound rising up to counter all the noise with a good song.
