Concert Review: You Too Can Woo With The Violet Sands And French Horn Rebellion

As if being an artist is hard, try being an artist representing OTHER ARTISTS! You To Can Woo had to have been one of the funnest concerts, I have ever been to: HANDS DOWN! French Horn Rebellion have made the very wise decision to begin a label called, YouTooCanWoo, which by the end of then night show it was going to be the Sub-Pop of funkadelic artists including ones such as, Violet Sands.

As the night strolled along, so many quirky characters had strolled and splashed across the stage that I thought I was in a Family Matters or Full House episode. Each act such as, Deidre & the Dark, Pink Flamingo Rhythm Revue, and Crush Club, glided through their performance with a groovy presence  and sweet wit; setting up the label as if it were a sonic, escape pod for listeners eager to go to a Planet Weird. To the “uptight” or “too cools” that may sound strange, but the night was a celebration of all those that lived and thrived in eccentricity, of which 80’s funk and electro- pop are good platforms. Such genres live and breathe in their colorful soundscapes. From lyrics to rhythms, they are meant to make you dance more in your head than on the dance-floor. Of course, as you literally move your body, you are dancing in reality, but with a dreaminess that only albums, such as Hotel, could summon.

I reviewed Hotel as scintillating record that draws off electro instrumentals as one does articles of clothing. It is sexy and strikingly seductive, and when played live, it was furthered by ambiance of outcasts at Rough Trade. Everyone there knew what it was to be fierce and alone; to have genius, poetry, and fantastical derangement course through your mind and spirit like a happy plague, but be seen as to strange to be joyous.  As everyone danced and laughed with a soulful permission only the YouTooCanWoo crew could master and muster; dance-offs, riff-offs, and joke-offs seemed to be the standard of the night. Thus, French Horn Rebellion proved their label was filled with creatives who could perform. Beginning, of course, with the Violet Sands, and their celebration  of an album that is a good start for a label I never knew I wanted to exist. The future already looks like it holds funkier tunes from YouTooCanWoo. For More Information The French Horn Rebellion Click Here And  On Violet Sands Click Here.
