Diandra Previews: Deva Primal & Miten Brings Mantras to Music At Town Hall on September 8
Miten began his career in the 70’s, touring with Fleetwood Mac, Hall and Oates and The Kinks, among many others, his life later changed course and sent him to an ashram in India, where he and his now life partner Deva Premal have become world-renowned for fusion western music and Sanskrit chant. Now, Miten returns to his roots with many stories to tell on Temple At Midnight, out 9/9, which flows from his British rock roots to love of Americana and even reggae.
There are quite a few reasons why I like Deva Primal and Miten, and why I encourage you to see them on September 8 at Town Hall. Here is the list:
1) They prove the beauty of love: With Primal and Miten it is not conscious coupling… it is spiritual coupling. The mindful musicians are so in love with each other and the creative joys they have achieved internationally that there performance will un-harden any rock of a heart.
2) Their music enters you like a wind of tranquility: It could be the mantras and sanskrit chants that they sing over spanish-flared guitars, but something about their songs makes you feel as if wind is gently touching your face. Like wind, you can close your eyes and meditate in the cool, crisp ambiance their music creates over you. How beautiful!
3) They prove that music is culture: Deva Primal and Miten have mixed their world lives and musical lessons into a sound that proves music itself can be a culture. Yet, more importantly, they prove that culture can be one of peace. While most musicians aim to bring out your inner angst or joy, they aim to bring out your inner calm. You walk out of their concerts feeling as if you traveled the world to witness its stunning nature. This judgment or feeling may not seem like much, but in a world that can feel everyday more violent, it is wonderful to have a pair musicians that remind you there is still good left, particularly good music.
