EP Review: Tusks False EP Brings The Pretty To Music (Out June 10)

Tusks is the epitome of ethereal sadness. Her new EP, False, dropped today and it is stunning.  Her high, breathy voice sounds like the tear of an angel: gentle and too delicate to be in pain. Her vocal brokenness will attract any listener that wants to close their eyes and hear beauty.

A Track By Track  Review:

For You: All Tusks sings is ” It’s all for you”. The line repeats as synthetic beats drape her voice like a cloud or mist from Heaven. As she continuously sings this one line, you can envision her open heart being offered to a lover. It is too pretty to put into words and might even feel too beautiful to be heard. Like an unreleased track from God’s LP.

False: This track sound like a 90’s film based on a group of insecure kids going to a club. I know that is a strange comparison, but it is an oddly cinematic song. It is a track that makes you see it rather than hear it, which frankly I love. You can see and feel the youthful angst and tension that comes with trying to decipher reality.

Ivy: Another pretty track that does not feel as ethereal as For You, but manages to bring beauty to its grounded sentiments. You feel like you are in the soul of a young, pensive woman wondering how to feel free and safe in her relationship/ life. It is sonic proof that Tusks can vocally and lyrically embody somberness into enlightenment.

Torn: the beat is subtly seductive, which is perfectly misleading for this track. This light but sultry indie pop song happily entrances you while speaking, again, on feelings of internal brokenness. Its melody and harmonies are lovely and achingly vulnerable.

For those, that love somber, quiet songs I would highly recommend Tusks False EP. It may sound crazy to recommend sad songs, but WE ALL LOVE THEM. It is like watching a sad film when you need a good cry. Sometimes, you need a good song to help you understand the darker sentiments and spaces we have all fit in.
