Movie Review: Men In Black: International Is A Summer Hit

Watching Men In Black: International, I kept on thinking, “Oh yeah! This is a summer blockbuster.” It has the action, charming wit, big budget, and lightheartedness we expect from a summer film. While the original MIB is tough to beat, beyond their shared agency, MIB: International stands on its own.

Within the first few minutes of the the film, you might ask, “Where is Will Smith?” or “When is Tommy Lee Jones coming?” These men are definitive to the brand, and they are nods to the their impact. Yet, the film quickly sets up its new pair, and, frankly, you pull for them. Tessa Thompson plays Agent M with a fierce determination and intelligence. She is not the one to believe a lie and, definitely, not a person to hold back the truth. With this, she finds, convinces, and, eventually, excels in joining the Men In Black; headed by Kween Emma Thompson as the dominating as Agent O. Moreover, she becomes a character audiences will follow and cheer for, especially when she checks Chris Hemsworth’s Agent H.

I DEMAND MORE COMEDY FILMS WITH CHRIS HEMSWORTH! Yes, he looks as if Thor was really his autobiography, BUT he is tremendously smart and timed as a comedian. He makes Agent H a reckless charm, which the film history of Harrison Ford proves is always a good way to capture hearts. From the beginning, you know something is “off” with Agent H, of which the film’s story launches in trying to figure out how this top agent became so lost. With Liam Neeson as Agent High T and Rafe Spall as Agent C, everyone in MIB is trying to stop a pair of aliens, played hypnotically by Les Twins, trying to gain a weapon that could erase a galaxy. The problem is that someone in the MIB is not to be trusted.

Beneath its mystery, this film’s laughs are split between Hemsworth and the scene stealing Pawny (played by Kuma il Nanjiani). Nanjiani’s voice and wit as the little, noble creature is both hilarious and makes Agent M and Agent H’s pairing feel like a trio. While the film has a solid start, Lawny’s arrival makes it feel warmer and “feel good.” His loyalty to Agent M is adorable, and, when all work together to save the world, and their varying personalities balance each other to further likability. Thus, if you are worried you will not fall for agents M and H as much as agents J and K, there is no need. Although, it will be different.

MEN IN BLACK: INTERNATIONAL – Alien Dealership Prank

Between the higher stakes action sequences and stunning visual effects, MIB: International certainly ups the vision of the original MIB. Directed by F. Gary Gray, in creating such a vaster, bigger world, it allows you to settle in that these characters/ film is different. Yet, it is still good, and, frankly, it is one of my favorite films this summer. Often, when I think of the movies, I try to think of what film I would pay 20 bucks to see, and I would pay for MIB: International. Heck! I can’t wait for the sequel! MIB: International Comes Out June 14.
