Podcast: A Few Q’s With Diandra Reviews – Episode 1- Ben Wylen On What People Say
When it comes to Ben Wylen’s debut, People Say, you are warped into a world, where lyrics feel like the versed commentaries we make on ourselves and others. EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY ABOUT EVERYONE! Yet, one thing about this Coronavirus is that it feels silencing; to approach this pandemic, too deeply, could be bombarding.
Ben Wylen – People Say (Official Music Video)
As you listen People Say, Wylen’s voice feels textured to soothe. He, vocally, feels similar to a mud bath; taking the grittiest, dirtiest parts to human feeling and making them feel medicinal; as if to say, you hurt to heal. In my very first episode, of A Few Q’s With Diandra Reviews, I got to interview Ben on what inspired his debut album’s sound and for him to confront what People Say. Unsurprisingly, he claims Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen as influences, of which the record definitely feels like he trying to bring the narrative, rock style of these icons into the present. Yet, the most intriguing part to this podcast is our talk on the pandemic, and how isolation can transfer into inspiration, if you let your creativity be without questioning its worth or setting up a plan from it.
