Album Review: Buddy & Kent Jamz Make A Janktape Vol 1.
Buddy is one of the funnest rappers on the rise. His flow is both rambunctious and conscientious like, a man who can’t decide if he wants to light a battle or a blunt. Of course, that dichotomy is always welcomed in Hip Hop; this whole genre began as a reflection of black lives’ sufferings, triumphs, and the situations that lie in-between. Yet, Buddy unites with Kent Jamz to create Janktape Vol 1. as the ultimate party mix for Hip Hop lovers.
I should have known what I was getting when their album cover was literally a Buddy and Kent Jamz as Beavis and Butthead. Much like the 90’s, iconic cartoons, the album sonically peruses through different genres and styles as if Beavis and Butthead were recounting their favorite, music videos again. Whether Buddy is alone or partnered up, the rapper always creates arrangements that show a good beat can spark a colorful image. From “Terrified” to “Pass By Me,” Buddy and Kent Jamz feel like two men that have entered the party with one goal: to cop numbers.
Stay Home Sessions: Buddy & Kent Jamz | Powered by SOUNDBOKS
Both Buddy and Kent have voices that are smooth in their flows and intentions. They seduce rhythms with their lyrics on living nights to the fullest as if days never held a job before. Wouldn’t that be nice? Their back and forth give the mixtape an endearing level of friendship and camaraderie that will speak to listeners and remind Hip Hop lovers of the old days when Dre, Pac, and Snoop were just simply hopping on beats and 4-tracks to get some California Love. That type of honest, “let’s have a blast” verse and rhythmic swag is EXACTLY what we need right now.
Buddy & Kent Jamz – She Think (Audio)
Maybe, it is because Bad Boy For Life just dropped on digital, but you can’t but feel the goofiness and adrenaline of the Will Smith/ Martin Lawrence dynamic between Buddy & Kent Jamz. I’ll leave it up to them to decide who is the Fresh Prince and who is Martin, but both have grasp the youthfulness, silliness, and determination of really wanting to hook up, smoke up, and, overall, have a good time. Thus, Janktape Vol 1,will get you through this quarantine quicker and it is comes out April 17.
