Diandra Interviews Camie: A Ouija Board of Music

Okay! As Camie relived her HORRIFYING experience with a Quija board, I kept on thinking…. Why did you do that? Is that possible? And yes, we can be friends? (lol!) Similar to myself, Camie has a fascination with the mystical, but, unlike her, the closest I will get to a Quija board is as I fast forward its appearance in the Conjuring 2, which ironically is a movie that I totally fast forwarded until I realizes I didn’t see one scene but, somehow, ended up with a rosary in my hand. Thus, enjoy my interview with the fierce Colombiana, Camie, and how magic really does become music.

Diandra: How are you and how is the release going for “Witch of LA?”

Camie: Every time I release a song, it is like a birthday. Everyone calls me! It feels amazing. Every songs is connected, but this song was the first one written for my EP. It was the only that created the whole story behind the EP.

Diandra: What inspired the story?

Camie: I have always been a huge believer in witches and the supernatural. It is a major factor of Colombian culture. We believe in spells and curses, and the beat for a “Witch of LA, ”I was at the balcony. It was so smooth and organically made. I kept on asking, “What if I was a witch?” As women, we have magic inside of us. It is a power that we have to use inside of us. Men are, usually, skeptical of mysticism. They are more into the material world.

Diandra: Men have no magic.

Camie: (laughing) They really don’t. That is why women are so powerful.

Witch of LA

Diandra; What power would you want as a witch?

Camie: Mind- control! Getting someone to do what I want with no second questions. Just do that! Yes! Just do this! Yes!

Diandra: What would be a way to end a curse?

Camie: Faith! I was raised Catholic so I believe in the power of faith. I believe in the power within you and positivity, and I don’t believe you respond to a curse with a curse.

Diandra: Your music, definitely, feels like you are building a world?

Camie: Absolutely! The power of my imagination was something I was born with. As 10 year old kids, we have such a vivid imagination, playing games and imagining worlds, but, as we grow older, it stops being so real. We don’t daydream as much. For me, that 10 year old never left, and, when I’m bored, I start playing games like, “What if the Apocalypse happened? What would I do?” My imagination provides me an escape: a place to meditate when I feel depressed.

Diandra: If there were 3 laws to live in Camieland, what would they be?

  1. Believe- Just have an open mind. Don’t have doubt.
  2. Be adventurous- Camieland would be ruled with having adventures all the time.
  3. Loyalty- Be loyal to queen (she laughs). I love loyalty.

Diandra: Do you follow those rules?

Camie: I do. I’m very adventurous. I go on hikes. I love when I go over to people’s houses, I’m always looking at what they have. I’m also very faithful. I stick to my friends and beliefs. So, yeah, I am a believer. That is why I love reading about goddesses, aliens, and myths. There is a 50% chance that there is something true. There are so many possibilities, and I choose to believe they are real. I like the mystery.

Diandra: Is there a ghost story you love?

Camie: I played Ouija board. (note the audio of our chat got staticky when she said that). My parents were very mad at me when I told them because this evil spirit started attacking me and entering my dreams. It was crazy. I got haunted. It was bad. I did it because I was curious, and I should have listened to my mom. She says, “Don’t flirt with evil!”

Camie Llano – Visitor (lyrics)

Diandra: You know what I think about the Quija board. It’s that, if I was in Heaven, I would not pick up. Like, I’m in Heaven, I don’t need to chat. (she laughs) The whole point of it is to communicate with spirits, and if I’m happy with God like…. I don’t need to talk to you. Moreover, it just doesn’t feel like a method to calling Heaven. It is so earth-bound and Hasbro made it, the creators of Monopoly, so I imagine, at best, it gets some roaming spirit or escaped demon, whom is like, “Whoa, someone wants to speak to me?”

Camie: Exactly! Exactly! It is completely accurate. I had to get this guy who freed me from it, and he said the exact same thing. You opened a portal to beings that are negative and did not cross over. They are professional liars. They talk to you through your consciousness, and they know who you want to talk to. They will pretend to be that person and it is very misleading. The more you play, the more you attract them and you release a bad energy around you.

Diandra: How old were you when it happened?

Camie: I was 25.

Diandra: What! I was picturing you as a kid. At 25, that is so scary.

Camie: My dad was like, “Are you stupid? You are 25. You are too old for that!” I got it at Barnes and Noble, but it is crazy. Seeing it move, and everyone is like, “Did you move it?”

Diandra: How did Camieland come to be?

Camie: Ever since I was a kid, I had anxiety attacks. You are like, “Why do i feel like this? Am I crazy?” When I was 10 or 111, I realized that I could change the energy of a room. I am very sensitive to energies like, I would go into a room and feel it dark. So I was like, “No, don’t leave the room.” Then, I would pretend I was a detective solving a murder mystery or imagine I was escaping an island, and using my bed as a boat.

When I am in Camieland, I swear I am not here. I see it. I get so connected and focused that I don’t see the room anymore. My friends are like, “Are you in Camieland?” They’ll look at me looking at the sky and say,” What do you see up there? A dragon?” But the mind is very powerful, you can travel to any place or time with it.

Camieland – Camie Llano (Official Video)

Diandra: If I could go back in time, I would like to see the Americas before it was colonized by Europe. Just observe all the native tribes and enjoy their ways before they suffered so much.

Camie: Yeah! That is so true! We really don’t know much about them. We only learn through the “romance” and English perspective. We don’t have books by them on who they were. History is always told by the winner, which is why there are so many loopholes.

Diandra: Is there someone you would go back in time to meet and which of your songs would you dedicate to them?

Camie: Marilyn Monroe. She was so different then what people think. I don’t believe she was the person she was made out to be, and so many loopholes to her story. And, for a song, I guess “Visitor.” It talks about this part of you, this demon, that comes crashing inside of you. So, like Marilyn Monroe, even though she had fame, money, and health, she had this darkness that would take the best of her and she gave so much focus to it. The song speaks to me because it is about fighting that and wrapping up who you are.
