Diandra Interviews Elena Rose: Destined To Become A Star
Elena Rose is going to be huge, and, apparently, even the Latin Grammys know that because they just nominated her. The hit-maker for stars like, Becky G, 100% understands what it is to authenticate an image. In this business, you have to become an entity or even a goddess to survive as a woman. While many call Elena Rose, Latin Pop’s Marilyn Monroe, it is the women of her life, like her grandmother, and a spiritual perspective on toxic exes that have made her fabulously and iconically feminist and 100% a star. In our interview, we laugh, reminisce, and feel the force of women in music.
Diandra: Sandunga is about inviting people in. Where do you feel Coco invited people?
Elena Rose: Deep down in the song, it is for the bullies. I invite people to be free to be their true selves. I am inviting people to get to know who they are, what makes them unique, and embrace it. Don’t let anyone tell you who you are or need to be for success. It is a song that calls for freedom in a healthy way.
Diandra: You have said music is like putting on camouflage. What layers does Elena Rose add to you?
Elena Rose: I have fallen in love with getting to know myself more. When it comes to making music, for me, I feel very naked and vulnerable because I am getting to know myself. It is a beautiful, deep process.Silence, with me by myself, makes me go into my now universe. Music lets me see all the parts of me, including my childhood and my past. I love getting inspiration from my surroundings and the people around me like, my sister and my mom. I see music everywhere.
Diandra: What has that process made you love about yourself?
Elena Rose: I was, actually, talking about this with my best friend last night. I love that I am that person that people feel safe to say things around me. I really appreciate that because I know how it feels to not feel safe. So channeling love and being there for someone is beautiful, and I love that I can do that for someone.
Diandra: Your songs really promote an indomitable confidence, and I want to know when did you really start feeling that way and who taught you?
Elena Rose: I’ve had angels in my life that, even if they don’t know, they have inspired me. I met my manager a year ago, and he is the first man, in my life, that ever taught me to look at my real value. I was raised with that message by strong women in my life. So for that to come from a man, in that way, has taught me that I don’t have to stand alone all the time. I can have someone there to remind me, if I forget. (she laughs)

Diandra: I know you are a grandma’s girl so what is your favorite memory with her?
Elena Rose: That makes me want to cry. Oh My God! I remember she was gardening, and the sky was getting grey. I remember having this little dress on and I was like, “Grandma, I am having such a good time with you,” and she said, “We have to go inside,’ and started singing, “Because It Is Going To Rain, The Clouds Are Getting Grey, Oh Mother, I’m Getting Wet.” I remember that clearly, and she just started singing it and I was like, “Wow!” She just made that song up.
Diandra: Grandmas can really turn a rainy day into music. The POWER!
Elena Rose laughs
Diandra: I know that Marilyn Monroe is an inspiration and often a comparison because of your style and the platinum blonde. If yo
Elena Rose: Wow! All of them! To be honest, I wish I could do for her what she couldn’t do when she was here. I feel really honored that people compare me to her, to the point, that I sat on the porch, looked up at the sky, and said, “If you hear me, Marilyn, I don’t want to be you, but if I can bring honor to your life or the life you wanted to live, I am going to do it here.” She had a lot of emptiness, insecurities, fears, and sadness from all that she lived. In that way, I see honor because it tells me to have confidence; let go of insecurities.
Diandra: Well, she didn’t have your manager either.

Elena Rose: ( laughing) I am pretty lucky. It is funny because people think I look like here because of my hair, but we have very similar lives, which is why I relate to her. So I want to make things right for her in a way. In terms of life, I was very repressed and very lonely many times because of men. I was very hurt. Coming from my very dysfunctional relationship with my father, that was my first example of men not really understanding who you are and putting you down as a woman and person.
It is harder and sadder when you are with a man that blocks you in life, and my grandmother was in an even more misogynist era. She would take me to the kitchen, while she was cooking for my grandfather, and made it clear that she is cooking because she wants to cook. She would always tell me to never depend on a man and that I am strong enough to depend on myself. She would tell me I could do anything I wanted with my life. I could be a business woman, and that to never let men limit me. And she would say that while making food for a bunch of men, so that always stayed with me; even though men effect me, they can’t stop me. An empowered woman can get WHATEVER she wants. She knows how.
Diandra: Totally! I feel that an empowered woman is unstoppable because she will no 10 million more rejections and cruelties than a man and because of men. Yet, if she keeps confident and going that pain becomes a strength they could never have or understand.
Elena Rose: Exactly!

Diandra: What has been the hardest aspect of becoming you and the sweetest?
Elena Rose: The sweetest has been that, despite all those that didn’t believe in me or all the times I didn’t, I could feel that God was with me. I always say, “I want to believe in me like God believes in me.” People ask me what would I do without music, and I say, “What would I do without God?” I feel my angels and ancestors around me: protecting and motivating me. It is a beautiful thing.
I work a lot of energy, and connecting it to God. It is not even religious. It is just energy. So I really see God as the present, and I can see Him like in colors or in my surroundings. I really feel him and it makes me feel happy. I have crossed angels because of that, and I feel really blessed. What you give is what you attract, and I always tell God, “Give me what you want for me, and take away all those that don’t hold you intentions.” Even when I have faced of with horrible, machismo moments, I know it was God teaching me strength and showing me what people I should have in my life. It makes me stand back and enjoy what I have done because I have been working since I was 15.

Diandra: So what about now do you feel God is saying is your time?
Elena Rose: I always tell God, “Give me what you want for me, when I am ready?” This is my legacy. I am going to die one day so I want to work with me and work for Him. I always do songs that remind me of me and, in turn, remind me of you. We are all connected, and there are times when I write a song and it gives me the strength I needed from someone else. So I really feel what is happening now is because God wanted it to. I can’t wait to show you more! I am so proud, and I am collaborating with some big artists. So stay tune!
