Diandra Interviews: Jordyn Jones Does It All

Singer, actress, dancer, model, and social media influencer, Jordyn Jones is still a teenager and her life feels fuller than most. In a way, growing up in the spotlight, she has learned to be her own light. Moreover, she knows what it is to be seen by the world, exposed, as both a creative and person. Thus, it seems right that she wants to be a singer. There is nothing like a song to capture your vulnerability and turn it into mega-stardom. #Beyonce Hence, in our interview, Jordyn Jones discusses her upcoming EP, and what made her move from fierce dancer to fierce singer.

Diandra: What do you feel singing has taught you about who you are, as a person and creative, compared to dancing?

Jordyn: Dancing teaches you physically. It is kind of like freeing and more fun. Singing is more serious and mental for me. Like, if I hear someone else’s song or my songs, I actually go through all the thoughts and really listen to the lyrics and I relate to it. It’s crazy. Music has gotten me through everything in life, break-ups, love, and something stupid. Any situation I go through, I listen to music and it gets me out of my funk, and it empowers me to create my own song and write. Dancing is in my feet, but music is in my head.

You have said that the past year helped you find your voice. How do you see your voice has grown through “Cut Em Off” and “Think About U?”

Jordyn: That’s a really good question! I started in rap. I transformed even in genres. I learned so much, and I really thought I would be a rapper. Ever since I made the change, I am doing pop-urban. It makes me happier because I always admired Ariana and Selena. People that were total show-stoppers. It was a life-changing moment going into pop.

Diandra: Is there a personal story or experience of yours behind each of these songs?

Jordyn: Every song has been a rollercoaster for me. I went through heartbreak and landed in love. In listening to my songs now, I know my worth, and can never let that happen to me again. That is what I love about the EP. People can relate to that; getting themselves out and learning to get themselves back in.

Diandra: Both songs are such a contrast in one your saying “Boy Bye!” and in another you are missing him. What do you feel about love pushes someone away or pulls someone in?

Jordyn: I have been so happy being with myself. People always say, “You have to find yourself! You have to love yourself!” It is so true. You have to love and respect yourself so you can love and respect the other person more. I am in such a happy place in my relationships and with myself, and it is somewhere I could not have gotten without music.

Diandra: Bouncing off that question, what are your likes, dislikes, and certain qualities that people don’t know about you that they can learn through the EP?

Jordyn: My EP is way more personal. I feel safe in the studio; speaking my mind when I don’t feel safe telling people what I go through. Its more therapeutic when I am writing songs then going on an Instagram live or telling my friends even. I really feel safe.

Diandra: Being a social media influencer, how do you find what it is to be vulnerable online and your private life?

Jordyn: I feel like I am not new to it at all. I have been on Instagram for 5 to 7 years. So I, definitely, know what to put out and not. I, definitely, show my sadness and “being in love” stage. But I don’t really show the details. If you listen to my EP, you will see the details. You will see “Oh, he treated her like that!” or “She said that!” I want my EP to say that I, literally, worked for years to be proud of what I am doing and be comfortable in putting out my projects.
