Diandra Interviews Shenna: Singing In Colors

Music is visionary, and, for Shenna, it appears to her in the form of colorful hues. Gold can be a rhythm of confidence, while blue is a chord of nostalgia. As a songwriter that sings to life beyond loving men and liking posts, Shenna sees herself like a brand promoting both fabulousness and mindfulness. Thus, in our interview, we discuss how her confidence and creativity have only furthered as she let go of toxicity.

Diandra: How has living in NYC lived up to your dreams? How has that inspired your creativity?

Shenna: Since I was a kid, I wanted to move to New York City because I loved the fast life as opposed to my suburban life in Virginia. Living here now, I’ve been able to perform at some of the biggest places in New York City and meet a lot of amazing creative and friends. I feel that New York City is such an inspiring place to chase your dreams because if you can make it here you can make it anywhere.
Shenna – Blue Memories

Diandra: Your music can be seductive and igniting of passion. How would you define sexy, and what do you find is seducing in a partner?

Shenna: Thank you! I did find sexy as confidence and being true to who you are in a humble manner. I find that it is attractive when someone is positive and not afraid to be themselves  at all times.

Diandra: Singing to love, what has been the biggest lesson you have learned about loving yourself versus loving someone else?

Shenna: To be honest, I feel that if you do not love yourself it is hard to love others. I’ve learned to be more positive and to accept my flaws. People all require different attention when it comes to love, but, at the end of the day, it feels nice to know somebody cares.

Diandra: What was the inspiration behind your upcoming single? Was there a creative, origin story?
Shenna – Hope You’re Happy

Shenna: Originally when I wrote to this instrumental I had a completely different song that I wrote. After experiencing hardships in my career in motivated me to write this song and it felt effortless

Diandra: With your last single being called Can’t Get Enough, what were things, of the past decade, that you could not get enough of?

Shenna: I feel that a lot of those can relate but sometimes toxic love or relationships is very hard to let go. I wanted this song to be about not being able to pinpoint why you’re so infatuated with this person.

Diandra: What is your favorite Christmas memory?

Shenna: My favorite Christmas memory is going to my Uncle’s house on Christmas eve with my cousins and exchanging gifts, eating, and making memories.

Diandra: In honor of Blue Memories, what colors would you use to describe your memories of life and why? Which memory is the bluest to you?

Shenna: I would say that my life has been a spectrum of different colors. Highs and lows but always a valuable lesson is learned. I would say my bluest memory was when I suffered from vocal damage several years ago. During that time, my song writings skills truly blossomed.

Diandra: You are all about promoting confidence, but who do you turn to so as to learn how to be confident?

Shenna: I really just stay grounded and listen to motivational podcasts. Whenever I’m lacking confidence I watch a show that makes me laugh or take a little break from social media to clear my mind.

Diandra: Blue Memories, Made of Gold, Magenta…. what is it about music that you feel is most colorful to you?

Shenna: When I listen to music, I can see a color scheme with it. When you think of Gold you may think of empowering or Magenta and think sassy and fun. I feel that the rhythm and overall tone to the lyrics gives it that distinct color.

Diandra: You love Sia as a songwriter and Rihanna because she is a brand. How would you describe your brand, and what do you appreciate most about you as a songwriter?

Shenna: I would describe my brand as chill yet edgy with a unique sense in style. I don’t mind wearing crazy shoes or wearing metallic silver pants early in the morning. It is honestly just who I am as a person. I feel as a songwriter that I don’t write about love a lot. I write more about phrases such as “Take Your Time” or what is going on in today’s society such as how social media is toxic. I want people to hear a song I wrote and feel the emotion or message behind the music.

Diandra: Being known for your fashion, who are other  artists that you feel have adorably combined style to sound?

Shenna: I truly love Rihanna’s fashion style and music cohesively! I feel that her outfits she chooses to wear speaks to what type of mood she is in, and I love how she is styled for music performances and award shows! I also feel Zendaya’s music and fashion both slay!
