Jen Reviews: Soraia Confronts Your Inner Demons At Berlin NYC
Soraia brought out the spiritual exhaustion that inspires rock at Berlin NYC, and so perfectly plays to this time. With “Trumpito” on constant news over what he wishes to repeal, reproach, or reject, more and more people are feeling tired. Tired of not being seen, heard, or even accounted for by a world they have to live in, despite being treated like an alien. Hence, like Kasabian, Soraia has and will continue to thrive by piercing the rock that is people’s hearts, and saying, “UGH! I get that life sucks, but let it roll!”.
Celebrating their new record, Dead Reckoning, Soraia proved why they are a live show to watch: they actually give you a reckoning. Tracks like, “Quicksand”,”Monster”, and “Coolest Song In The World” were like confrontations between ZouZou Mansour and the world, i.e. the audience. Each tracks asks you to fight your inner demons, and Mansour is not going to let you do anything less. She whips her hair and body like Death does its Scythe; completely becoming a Lady Death of Rock N’ Roll. ZouZou could compete with the air-balloon guys in front of car-washes for tenacious, unstoppable body movement. Wind/music was moving her across the stage as she screeched her lyrics like her voice was a car veering off the road, which is exactly what is feels like to carry your insecurities. No matter how steady you drive, to constantly think you are nothing will, eventually, get you off the road. Honestly, how do you expect to have enough gasoline/ energy for your life, if you do not see yourself as worthy of having one? This challenge pervades as Zou Zou shows even a Dead Reckoning can carry wisdom. She may be laced in black and look grimed by life’s disillusions, but, at the same, time she is free. She is singing to and laughing at her life’s tales because she is no longer tired from insecurity, and assures Soraia intervenes on the people who are. After all, why are you so tired of feeling like you are not enough? It is not like you are doing anything to make yourself be or feel different.
This message was deeply impactful for me. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I will openly admit that there are days when if you were compare dirt to my mood/ self-image, I would say dirt is looking mighty good. Yet, I know so many who say the same, even if they are not open to it with everyone. Soraia is the band you go see when you want to rip the facade off, and actually say you want to be better. Who knew “in your face” rock could be so reformatory? Soraia did so Click Here For More Information.
