Album Review: Bad Gyal Is The Marilyn Monroe of Reggaeton In La Joia

If you ask me, I LOVE when women dominate ¨male genres.¨ Jenni Rivera, for Ranchero music, took on a male world by storm with strong vocals and an even stronger message: ¨Don’t F**K with HER!¨ La India did the same in the salsa world, and Karol G and Ivy Queen are getting good company with Bad Gyal by showing a woman’s beauty can quickly become her blade in defense against any man.

Softness and beauty are not weakness, and to underestimate them is to ask for a twerk to death. Bad Gyal La Joia is sexy, scintillating like lyrical lingerie, but it also a sparkle and twinkle to its orchestrations to make sure that g-string is diamond encrusted. Her ability to bring a lush, lux sense to grinding world of Reggaeton adds more femme flavor to a world that needs it. Heck! I say that about any genre that is always tilted towards a particular gender. I love a male pop vocalist as much I love a female pop vocalist. The way we feminize or masculinize music is blurring everyday, and La Joia may have synths that lace like pink ribbon but its baselines and verse go hard like rocks.

From Cardi B To Megan Thee Stallion, and of course Queen Nicki Minaj, the Barbie-ing of genres defined as ¨hard¨ has filled me joy. Beyond the racial and class dynamics that have historically defined Reggaeton as ¨aggressive,¨ the genres journey from tales of surviving the caserios of Puerto Rico  to defining clubs around the world has been one of epic pride for our people, which is why I love the incorporation of Bad Gyal´s uniqueness. She takes the growing sensuality of the genre and blends it with its old-school, survival essence as if looking good at the club is a mental chess game: male desire being an open door to female power. How very Marilyn Monroe!

Is Bad Gyal the Marilyn Monroe of Reggaeton? They certainly share an intelligence over how the male gaze can be the very foundation to your empire. Knowing what men want is like research for science; you can make som really powerful discoveries, and La Joia is certainly doing that. Out Now For More Info Click Here.
