Video Premiere: Saint Daniel “WAKE ME UP AND YOU’RE GONE”
I love a good dance track that makes me feel like the sky is at my fingertips and the world is far from my feet. It is as if you are floating into another dimension, This is a matching effect with the theme of Saint Daniel ’s “Wake Me Up And You’re Gone;” the delusion a person might have that a one night stand can transition into a serious relationship.
Have you ever had such a deep, instant connection with someone that you felt like you knew them all your life and wanted to know them for the rest of it? Have you ever felt so alone that even temporary company felt so desperately deep? With this in mind, Saint Daniel sings to the dreaminess and derangement of wanting love sp badly you believe one night is the equivalent to eternity. The project is the culmination of the tumultuous, life-long journey Saint Daniel has taken, from facing persecution and abuse due to his sexual orientation in Russia. This led him to flee to the UK and, through a decade-long struggle with the immigration system, to attain Refugee status in London.
Saint Daniel – Wake Me Up And You’re Gone (edapollo Remix) (Official Music Video)
Through “Wake Me Up And “You’re Gone,” Saint Daniel shows how he came through his hardships to finally bring his creative visions to life. The psychedelic sound used in production brings to mind pop tracks like “Touch of my Hand” by Britney Spears and Bjork’s “All is full of Love.” Meanwhile, the video shows similarities to Madonna’s “Power of Goodbye”. It was directed by Luke Armstrong, and when asked to comment on the vibe of the video Saint Daniel replied that it was meant to be an “aesthetically pleasant cinematic experience that highlights the melancholic feelings of the track.” In essence, it is beauty meant to amplify the ugliness of really wanting love to come today and knowing it is not.
