Song Review: Andy Suzuki & The Method Show That The Best Times In Life Are In “Overtime”
Andy Suzuki & The Method are readying to reveal their new album The Glass Hour this February. Their first LP, Born Out Of Mischief, was crowd-funded for 50,000 dollars, with various people believing in their electro-folk take on rock n’ roll. This should be sign enough that their is something special to this Brooklyn Duo. They recently released their single, “Overtime”, to get audiences revved for their smooth, sexy, and artistic sound. For many, when two bodies connect in lust and love, it is art, and Andy Suzuki & The Method agree.
I have always said that, when souls meet, so do bodies; touch is a sign of spiritual love. In “Overtime”, Andy Suzuki sings with a passionate excitement for love that counters the, at times, physical exhaustion life can give us. His “heart is working overtime” for the woman he loves, which helps him combat the tiredness that work and life can give you. Personally, I love the outlook of his mentality and, thus, lyricism. It is often the love that we have for others that helps us persevere over the mundane or meanness of other people and situations, especially at work. There is nothing like coming from the job and experiencing the warm peace that awaits you from the people you call your own such as, your partner. Such a noble theme needs to be matched by an equally endearing aesthetic.
With electro-rock chords waving throughout the record to give it a futuristic rhythm, The Method, grandson of Grammy Winner Babatunde Olatunji, creates a percussive foundation that spearheads the high vocal range of Suzuki and the high-octane of love. Sometimes, you just want to hold the person you love so that you can feel a contrast to the things you cannot hold or control like, your work life. Its a simple feeling represented by a song complexly arranged and embodying that the best times cannot be “clocked in” because they happen in “Overtime”.
