Song Review: LPX Shows That Taking Risks Are Like Walking A “Tightrope”
If Edward Sharpe had a child with Alanis Morissette, they would have called her LPX, and maybe they did. Tightrope is a reminder that music is not just about personal commentary but also personality. LPX shows that she is vibrant, carefree, and ready to walk the line but as an artist and your new obsession.
Releasing the video to day for Tightrope, LPX says the song is about “wrestling with the dizzying highs and lows of throwing oneself wholly with heart, body and mind, towards a risk. For the video I wanted to explore translating that internal battle into a physical one while highlighting the intensity and frenetic energy of the song. The video draws inspiration from artists Hito Steyerl and Norman McLaren as well as the 1948 film The Red Shoes and the ‘Imagination’ routine in Flashdance”. This explains why the video has a retro-futuristic feel that balances the colorful buoyancy of the 80’s with the clean, crispness of what people imagine the future would be like. Yet, what stands out about Tightrope is that despite if boisterous take on the years to comes, LPX asserts the song is reflective of how the internal battle to take risks will always be the same: scary and exhilarating. Maybe, because it is spiritual?
LPX – Tightrope
Human beings will always struggle to be their better selves because, for that, you need strength, courage, and a perseverant acceptance that not every good you do will be rewarded with good, as well. As LPX dances and swindles throughout the vid as if she is both free but working towards something, you understand the duality of risk-taking being exciting and exhausting. With a beautiful raspy voice that prickles like the thorns of a rose, I compare LPX to Edward Sharpe and Alanis Morrisette because both are musical figures that play with Messianic themes/ messages through lively instrumental and vocals. LPX is looking to do the same, but with an even more surreal and outlandish style. This artist is not looking to ground her nature: she wants to elevate it until walks on a Tightrope.
