Theatre Review: Shakesbeer Celebrates 30 Runs

I always say that Shakesbeer is the best pub crawl because it is! While this run does not have a theme, per say, it is all about Shakespeare. From Romeo And Juliet to Henry IV, Shakespeare’s greatest hits were re-enacted across Lower East Side bars to the glee of Shakespeare Exchanges’s most loyal followers.

I always say the actors of Shakesbeer are exceptional. They all are SAG members accustomed to the audition grind of New York, and relieved to find a breathe of fresh air through Shakesbeer’s opportunity. You could they were having fun, while each patron had their free drink and watched. At 45 dollars, you get either a free select beer, wine, or well drink to down as you watch the actor’s climbed tables and splash across their set/ bar. People cheered and wore their fave Shakesbeer shirts to show they are loyal to this NYC “must-do.” Yet, this time, I noticed even more Shakesbeer’s brilliance.

Whether they were apart of the pub or not, people watched mesmerized that, at a bar, classic, English literature felt tangible. If you have ever done a pub crawl then you know the pub doesn’t stop because you are “crawling” in it. As we walked in games were on. cellphones rang, music was not turned down, and strolling tourists asked for directions. Yet, even the most raucous group of drunk guys would pause and watch the actors’ impassioned renditions of themes such as young love, betrayal, confusion, pride, and hopefulness. All themes that have, equally, played out in any happy hour ever (lol!).

I really love Shakesbeer and wish it 30 years MORE! Every participant/ creator in this pub crawl is so kind and believes in their work. Actors are entertainers, which means they have to take seriously their job of giving you a laugh and a memory. Moreover, I always say,” Those that go to Shakesbeer are friendly, kind people.” I have done this crawl a few times, and have always made a friend and have NEVER seen anyone get drunk or belligerent. Everyone is either an appreciator of The Bard or an admirer of fierce acting. To Buy Tickets To The September 14 rendition click here.
