Concert Review: Pachyman Rises Like Weed Some At BK Steel

You have to see Pachyman on tour because you will never need weed again. He gets you so high via his music, I was glad I had my Medical Marijuana Card. His music strikes you so inadvertently; moreso like a contact high. You tell your friend you are not smoking tonight, and, one puff of her smoke trails towards you, and POOF, you are at Brooklyn Steel dancing to the Boricua Riddims.

Now that we are in The Month of Latinidad, My Puerto Rican Power is hitting Marvel levels, and it is, in part, because La Isla Del Encanto is a rare gem. It is apart of Latin America, The Caribbean, and America, all at once. Its influences versus influence is global for a reason; when you have so much history, you have so much to tell, and Pachyman’s music is a perfect example that lyrics are not always vital to do that. Sometimes, a good, Caribeño beat is enough to fill you with the words you need to hear like, “Dance,” “Calm Down,” and “Have Some Joy!” Personally, I had to give it to Pachyman for his courage. He was not just another man who made beats in his basement and decided to perform them publicly. For him, he was an entity of sorts.

I always liked opening acts because, in some ways, you have to work harder to win the crowd, but, when you do, it feels like a bigger prize. Even he acknowledged that people were not there to see him, as much as Black Pumas. Yet, I was there for him, as well, and I could see, from the back, the crowd vibing and swaying to Reggae/ Bomba inspired tracks that really don’t sound like Black Pumas. Thus, his ability to draw on a crowd ready for some soul and rock, and give them a sound that equally punches and flowers the spirit, but differently, meant that HE did that.

Being the most hyped DJ can feel like a job on how to shamelessly party and jump in place, and Pachyman felt like the coolest, chillest guy to keep the mood going. In essence, the odds were not in Pachyman’s favor, but he made them his prize. He was my friend’s puff of smoke, and I was happy to get the contact high. For More Information On Pachyman Click Here.
