Concert Review: Blaire Alise Turns Trans-Pecos Into A 60’s Hop

Blaire Alise And The Bombshells played Trans-Pecos last night in a grand tour de force of the their newest album, My Eye. This “mod squad” has an infrared energy on stage that makes their songs bounce from them like sun-rays on solar panels; they give you clean adrenaline. Their signature 60’s invocation brought the crowd back in time, but, moreso, made me realize what a jolting personality can do to chip-up a mood. ( You see that! I’m already using 60’s reference like “chipper”).

I do not know how to say this compliment any other way; Blaire Alise is “jumpy”. There is never a moment where she is not on her toes in songs, which gives the night an odd electricity. Here we are dancing to music that seems  our parents would deem more of “their youth”, and are being led by a songstress who appears like a fire-cracker onstage. On record, Blaire Alise’s sound and personality appear more “starry” as I describe her style with an urgency, to which I, specifically, said “ Alise always sings to being on the cusp of “something.” Yet, if on the album she is on the cusp, in concert, she has crash-landed in the best way. It is as if the rocketship of her dreams finally landed on the planet of its desires: the stage. She sings her songs with more fervor and fire, which transforms the poetry of her album into emotional punches that elaborate the rock of her mod style. She completely proves, why some of the best artists you will catch are the local ones or artists in their beginning. Serving her record like a five-star chef eager to plate her first meal, you felt more open to be transported to another era because Alise feels like she is in another, much funner world.
