Album Review: Hembree’s Had It All Literally Has It All

It is amazing to see how a day passes with a mutual sweetness and craziness. Hembree’s EP Had It All feels like 5 days rather than 5 songs. They are bright, brisk, and balance the sugary vocals of Isaac Flynn and the speedily light bops of their electro-rock.

Every songs of Had It All might as well say it still does. There is a sweet chaos to their sound that makes every key and synth sound like a fairy you are trying to catch in your hands. As she quickly flutters from your grasp, light magic is spread across the room in the form of sprightly digi-beats. This feeling of lightness makes the already short album feel like lightning in a bottle; it electrically strikes and then leaves you waiting to press repeat. Hembree’s capacity to make vibrancy feel as dramatic as chaos but as joyous as magic may be why they consider themselves indie rock. Had It All still has those rocker penchants for self-loathing and lost love as seen in “Holy Water”, “Found”, and “Two Sides”. Yet, these are the last three songs of the record, which makes the first two, “Had It All” and “Hold Your Love”, feel beginning of a relationship’s disintegration.

Every bond goes through a rough patch; where “staying” feels like the hardest thing you have ever done. As Flynn sings, he appears like air; breathing and cutting off notes as if love was his oxygen tank. The notion shows the beauty and pain of his voice. He can seem so clear and confused, all at once, which is EXACTLY how love makes you. There never is a clear path to love because it grows, which is why Hembree goes from singing “Had It All” to “Found”. To Buy Hembree’s EP Had IT All On November 3 Click Here.
