Album Review: Belle Game Define Resilience In “Fear Nothing”
Resilience! This is the word that is defining so many lives currently, and making humanity question, even more, its capacity to resist ensuing darkness. When the “bad times” come, as they will always, do we cower in fear or show it the light? This is a really deep challenge that is the foundation of Belle Game’s September 8 release, Fear Nothing.
Belle Game – Spirit
From the beginning, Fear Nothing sounds like you have stepped into an electro Narnia. It teeters between fantasy and reality, which will ignite listeners that love to be imaginatively taken by an album. That being said, like in every fairytale, there is always tumult and villainy threatening the peace of a kingdom. Enter the gallantly noble vocals of Andrea Lo to be a cross between a fair maiden and a fierce knight. Her ability two cross these, seemingly, two opposing images shows they are not so different at all, or, at least, they are comparable to the now daily dilemma many are facing in being an “average person” and advocate. Nowadays, a 9 to 5 feels followed by a Starbucks run and a protest pit-stop. Tracks like, “Spirit”, “Up Again”, and “Spaces” shine for their electro orchestrations, and their capacity to make you feel, again, like a maiden changing between courtly clothing and warrior armor. Each synth-wave and key zooms with the pressure and presence between these interchanging identities, and Lo narrates it all with a voice that seems firmed by dissidence. From “Bring Me” to “High”, you can just picture her picking up a banner to fight, and then running into her lover’s arms. The commonality between these appeared contrasts is love. When you decide to fear nothing, it is because you have chosen to love everything.
Belle Game’s new album is not one to be ignored. Fear Nothing may feel like an electronic symphony but it is also a call to arms. By orchestrating a sound that is sheerly Millennial and modern electro-pop, Belle Game capture the youth and bring listeners into the ethereal soundscapes of resilience. Yes, I know that “resilience” is a virtue, but Belle Game have given it a soundtrack. To Buy Fear Nothing On September 8 And Learn More About Belle Game Click Here.
