Album Review: Chvrches Sing “Love Is Dead” While Keeping It Alive
Truth exists somewhere between the dark and the light
It’s that quest for balance that runs throughout Love Is Dead.
Chvrches
With that notion, Chvrches “Love Is Dead” feels like the ultimate pop battle between Hate and Love. It feels as if the two virtues decided to meet up at an empty warehouse and have a dance battle. Of course, Love wins, but not without a few scars. For Chvrches, winning does not come without feeling hurt or loss. On the contrary, winning, especially at love, means overcoming hurt and loss.
Similar to Jessie J, Chvrches has released one of the most bombastic albums of May. Love Is Dead is fearless, loud, and swimming in so many 80’s inspired synths, you might need to order some Fabletics to dance to this album. “Forever”, “Heaven/ Hell”, “Wonderland”, and “Deliverance” are just a few tracks that lyrically zipline through synth-beats while Lauren Mayberry asks, “Can love ever be without hate?”
CHVRCHES – Get Out
With every joy comes a suffering and with every good comes a bad, but, still, humanity has a hard time accepting these truths. For Chvrches, if we are truly going for the goodness of love then we have to let go of any idea of perfection. Thus, Love Is Dead becomes one of their most optimistic, surprisingly ideological records. Lauren’s voice is a clear, neon display of how a strong voice can show happiness is a strength. From “Graffiti” to “Miracle”, Chvrches seem conscious in their words and instrumentals; as if to say that, now more than ever, love must be chosen, but the choice is not without pain.

If I could describe Love Is Dead in one word, beyond “thoughtful”, it would be easy. It is a breeze of a record that does not try to over-think its insightful messages. Instead, each track is a refreshing way to repeat “love is alive”, if you learn how to live it. For More Information on Chvrches’ Love Is Dead Click Here.
