Album Review: Fitz And The Tantrums Provide A Solid Party Mix (Out June 10)

Fitz and The Tantrums have provided a self-titled album that is a perfect dance mix. If you have not heard Handclap yet than you are missing a highly exuberant song on your iPod. The whole album encourages you to get up and kick your legs up like an over-excited, Radio City Rockette.

This album is one to blast at a party or at the gym. It aims straight for physical and spiritual stamina, which means it is not one for tiredness or sadness. Unless, you would like to be relieved of such states, I suggest “downers” stay away from this “upper” of a record. For starters, Micheal Fitzpatrick has a succulent voice. It enters your ears in the same way a sweet pastry enters your mouth. There is an inherent pleasure to his soulful vocals that make the album a MUST BUY! It literally feels like an earful of treats. When his voice combines with the enlightening force that is Noelle Scaggs vocals, you are literally listening to some of the most infectious harmonies. The two together feel like a whimsical trance that makes you want to dance around any bonfire you can find. Moreover, the lyrics are like a picturesque forefront for the electro- R&B backdrop. Thus, listening to beautiful words over energetic rhythms makes the album a charmer for high spirits.

I cannot say this album has a “downbeat”, which is why I love it. It is not trying to hide or aim for anything beyond high-energy. It is blunt in its desire to give you sonic stimulation as you sway in the dancefloor or secretly at home. Songs like Fadeback or Run It, remind me of the times when you are at home dancing elaborate choreography that no one will see. They are the perfect tracks for when you want to let loose in the privacy of your home, which we all have DONE! Who has not attempted every dance move, badly, while listening to a great song alone at home? No one! I thought so.

I loved this album because it is joy in 11 tracks. The Fitz and Tantrums have confidently given soul to electro-pop, and you hear it. Not one song is bad! The entire album sounds like a piece of love, which motivates listeners to follow the band in their initiative: DANCE! I was moved by the heart placed in this record, and would recommend it to anyone whom desires to feel good.

Beside the ones mentioned, here are a few of my favored tracks:

Complicated: the drumbeats keep this song going in your heart and elevate it to a musical/spiritual standard. We all have been in complicated relationships, and this track has managed to both exemplify and amp up dancing joy to get through such unnecessary dramas.

Walking Target: the hook of this song will provide anyone an adrenaline rush. It sounds like a cheerleading dance-off, where high octane and dance moves will be used to assure top prize. Again, although most of their songs are about the woes and whims of love, they make you want to dance through the heartbreaks and confusions of the sentiment.

A Place For Us: the repetitive force that is it bassline reminds me of the vibrance of youth. It is an emphatic track to every Millennial and rising generation that desire that “place for us”. It lyrically embodies the dreamy destination we all have, in terms, of where we belong. Add its fun synthetic beats, and it gives you hope that you will arrive there.
