Album Review: Rising Hip Hop Star Chazmere Provides Bronx Pride

YAAAASSSS JUST YAAASSSSS!!!!!!! What an excellent debut for a Hip Hop artist. Chazmere has been grinding buzz around himself for some time, and to hear him drop his self-titled debut is exciting. The Bronx- bred rapper has a fluid flow with a Jay-z vocal flare. His casual approach to rap styles will leave everyone chilling on the couch and feeling relaxed.

Chazmere provides “blaze music”, which are the Hip Hop tracks you put on to lay low for the night. Hence, his debut is intriguing because most rappers use blaze music as a few, incidental tracks. They aim for the “up” of party or rather the moments of adrenaline and constant motion. While Chazmere can easily do such tracks, his aim is for the “downbeats” of a party, which for me are the best. Those are the moments when you take yourself and a few friends to hang out in your room, while the house party continues. His natural ability to make you feel as cool as a summer breeze will definitely provide him longevity in the Hip Hop game. Moreover, his voice is deliciously unique.

Chazmere’s voice has no arrogance or condescension. One major complaint about Hip Hop today, is that rappers sound and spit materialism. They want to present themselves as above, when the true heart of Hip Hop came from the ground.  It is a genre bred for and from “the streets”, particularly of the Bronx: its hometown. Thus, it is a huge compliment to say that Chazmere sounds like he is coming from the ground up. He sounds like, the rapper you pass by everyday on the stoop of your building. Said rapper has amazing talent and a dream in his eye, but awaits his “chance”. Well now he has it, and he is going by the name Chazmere! That may sound like a weird analogy, but, again, rap came from the streets, and some of the best rappers, you have yet to hear, are still there. Thus, it is sonically intriguing to hear someone that sounds different because he sounds like home.

Hip Hop is a global tour-de-force. It seems like “the genre” of music, which can cause it to lose some of its humbler essences. Hence, I enjoyed Chazmere’s debut because it is casual. You can play it at anytime and anywhere. It is like a welcomed addition for the everydayness of life.

Favorite Tracks-

I Won’t TellI can hear this song easily playing from someone’s car. It is has rapid, jungle drum consistently playing through its lighter bell tones. The mix perfectly captures the fast, dynamic feeling of living in the Bronx: my hometown!

Play This For Toni: This song is both hypnotic and oddly humorous. His rhymes over Toni can induce literal visions of her walking down the street. We all know a Toni!

TEN: This song  sounds like a glorious, groundling of Hip Hop. It makes me remember the days when Biggie or Tupac would just grab their mic and rap in the block.  Like Chazmere, the corner was their stage, and the earth was theirs to conquer.

SYCH: the motown mix that underplays this track makes it so wonderfully seductive. It is a song to close your eyes to and lightly sway. The smooth backdrop allows Chazmere to introduce the sultriness of his voice.

Chazemere’s Debut comes out on June 10: Enjoy! For more information on the artist or to buy the album Click Here.
