Album Review: Jordan Bratton Makes Me Want To Take “Driver’s Ed” Again
If Jordan Bratton’s Driver’s Ed was the actual course, my life would have gone way better (Lol!). Now this mixtape is something I can pass with flying colors because Bratton has combined contemporary R&B with the love of a ballad and the rejuvenation of a gospel sound.
LÉON – LÉON’s Lullaby
Bratton’s Driver’s Ed is more than just modern R&B; it is a spiritual dive into everything we love about this genre. R&B, at its core, is about the flesh and bones of love. It encapsulates every heartbeat and breath you have given another human being, of which “Pieces”, “Family”, and “Sunsets” sound like classic R&B gridded, mashed, and fused with experimentation. Think Kevin Parker deciding to create R&B/ Gospel production for Millennial dreams. Bratton twists a synth here, pulls a chord there, or clouds a rhythm to make sure that no song goes without sounding like a strange beauty. The result enthralls listeners in tracks like, “Spaces”, “Matrix”, and “The Hills In Heaven”, where they can feel like they coursing through Mother Nature in a spaceship. Bratton’s blend of human/ earthly sentiment with a feeling of eclectic energy allows him to revamp these several genres at once by showing their is no caps to originality and creativity. Yet, it is his lyricism and vocals that prove vulnerability is unlimited, as well.

When you are going to sing to a soul then you must present yourself as one, as well, of which Bratton believes humanity lies in our ability to feel. While philosophers say humanity’s reason is what distinguishes it, for Bratton, his lyrics are an exploration of how we reason through our emotions to either brighten and bury ourselves through episodes in our life. From familial loss to personal gains, no observance of love is left without Bratton’s wisdom and lush vocals. From “Golden Eyes” to “The Things”, Jordan’s voice feels like fruits being cut, pulped, and served for your thirsted pleasure. He goes for the juice of feelings which is why he drips and drizzles through his range like he was pouring his voice from a glass. The result is an album that shows experimentation becomes sophistication when you keep your heart through every creative move. For More Information Jordan Bratton’s Driver’s Ed Click Here.
