Album Review: Lecrae Shows Authenticity Comes When “All Things Work Together”

Lecrae is on the search for authenticity, and All Things Work Together seems to be another milestone in his journey. I think I can spend a lifetime discussing what is genuine. Yet, All Things Work Together takes the idea of authenticity to a whole other level. What if the only things that are genuine are the things that are shared….. like love or learning lessons?
Lecrae – I’ll Find You ft. Tori Kelly

From determination in “Can’t Stope Me Now” to forgiveness in “Wish You The Best ft. Verse Simmonds”, Lecrae’s All Things Work Together is an analysis to all the virtues he has learned in his consistent rise as a rapper. The surprising element of his rise is that he acknowledges that he has broken hearts as well as had his broken. Honestly, we all have a harder time saying we did wrong than saying we were wronged, and that is understandable. There is a certain feeling of self-righteousness that comes with knowing you were the innocent of a situation, but Lecrae is not here for that. His thoughtfulness stems from seeing his role and the parts he played in ending relationships “Cry For You” and the celebration of rising ones, “Worth It ft. Kierra Sheard and Juwan Harris”. Of course, none of these elements would leap without a back-drop of either bouncing basslines “Hammertime ft. 1K Phew, From sampling to synth-waved arrangements that makes tracks appear like digitized gospels meant to uplift you through Trap beats as in, “Lucked Up” and “I’ll Find You” featuring the plush vocals of Tori Kelly. The entire record teeters between thankfulness to those who stood behind him even at his lowest, and a laugh in the face of those that tried to make him stay at his lowest. “Blessings ft. Ty Dolla Sign” , “Facts”, and “ Broke” are the cheekiest tracks of the album with “Broke” being my favorite. Not only is Lecrae in full-on gloating over his accomplishments and will to achieve them, but he is also self-aware that it is the worst episode of his life that gave him the best ones.
Lecrae – Broke (Audio)

From “Always Knew” to “8.28”, the entire record is Lecrae’s acknowledgment that the good times and better decisions he has made stem from the lessons he gained from the bad ones. From being chased by cops, broke to point of “third world” comparisons, and simply being a horrible friend/ lover to someone, Lecrae keenness to purge himself emotionally from the good and bad will fascinate. Both are getting equal billing in making him authentic, and I have to admire the display. With a flow that seems smooth in delivery for verses that punch with weight, Lecrae’s All Thing Work Together is proof that they really do.
