Album Review: Phora Shows The Meaning of Yours Truly Forever

Yours Truly Forever has to be one of the most romantic statements ever uttered. To be dedicated to someone for eternity, and trust that the love, faith, and wisdom that bonds you will only grow is a big leap of trust for humanity. For Phora, this oath is not just one you make to another but also yourself. The 22 year old rapper and legendary graffiti/ tattoo artist has used these creative outlets to express his angels and demons, and in, Yours Truly Forever, he decides which side he walking eternally aside.
Phora – To The Moon [Official Music Video]

Letting go of your demons is not easy because they are not always publicly seen or heard. Tracks like, “God”, “Sinner Pt.2”, and “I Come Apart” discuss how your inner darkness can rap you in chains and cells that not many will notice. Yet, every time you think or try to dream they pop up to clink you down. Phora’s rap style is so smooth and effervescent that he almost appears conversational in his expression. To say his thoughts and sentiments seems, unnaturally easy and beautiful to him compared to the rest us. Songs like, “Numb”, “Facts”. “Loyalty”, and “Rider” leave me torn. On one hand, I want to lie back and let my mind soak in Phora’s verses, while in the other I want to ride around the block and blast his beats. Whether he is taking his love “To The Moon” or deciding there is “No Looking Back”, he always keeps a sense of cool to his voice and lyricism; as if there is a balance to being a human being even if your situations are far from leveled. His inherent coolness makes the 16 track album feel brisk, and gives listeners a full sensory experience. Whether you want to immerse in his words or rhythms, you always feel like you are sinking into Phora’s world.
Phora – Loyalty [Official Music Video]

Instrumentally, Phora’s record is unstoppable. Whether you want to seduce, strut, or strengthen yourself to another, he has a beat for every option. From the heavy, kick bassline of “Everybody Knows” to the classically jazzed style of “In My Eyez”, Phora uses his soundscape like a winding street; each building carries verses that carry stories that carry sentiment. To enter one is to enter Phora’s history of which he hopes, like his future, will be written to Heaven in concert lights saying, “Yours Truly Forever”.
