Album Review: Omar Alhindi Is A Total “Bedhead”

With a guitar and a tender voice, Omar Alhindi’s debut Bedhead Part One is a string-driven album to pass the day. This record is not about being “too analytical” over life’s meaning or laced with dramatic beats. On the contrary, it is a simple and endearing because of its unforced melodicism. Omar only wants to play music that charms and brightens people’s life; that is it!

I find Bedhead a befitting title to the overall ambiance of Omar’s record. There is a definite feeling o waking up to your day that Omar strikes through his guitar strums. I can’t recall too many records or artists that better encompass that feeling of waking up. Each strum is the “morning blinks” you give when you realize its time to live another day. It is in this notion that Omar’s sweet voice rises as one you can hear all day. He, like his string arrangements, are casual and symbolic of the “day to day” we all must live.
Bedhead is the album you put one when you just want to hear music. It is not about escapism or even sociological discussions. It is about the routines and relationships we carry in our everyday that seem natural to our life, but are also magnificent in perspective. Nothing in life is guaranteed, even the first few “morning blinks” of our day. Thus, in dedicating his music to capturing the routine of life may not seem so innovative. Yet, music is a powerful tool, and Omar has the hooks and melodies to make even getting a cup of coffee seem like an art exposition. By not trying to be elaborate or vast in sound, Omar comes off as universal.
Whether he is sparking a bit of a dance craze in “Dance All Night” or showing the starriness of love in “Dear June”, there is always brightness to Omar’s sound. Through Bedhead Part 1 you feel like you have met a positive spirit in Omar Alhindi, whose voice is like twilight, just shining through the darkness and humdrum of your day. Moreover, you have to love an album that is sonically accessible. Most music lovers are like me… moody, which his not a bad thing. I say moody in the sense of I can listen to Britney Spears and Led Zeppelin, but only when I am in the mood for either one. Let them be put on when I am NOT in the mood for their sound, and I will not capture their magnetism. Yet, Bedhead Part 1 is an album for every mood because in being easy and captivating, it transcends your varied musical appetites to make you feel full. Favorite Tracks:
Stay Strong: dedicated to his grandmother’s struggle with cancer, this song is like a helping hand to all those that stand beside their loved ones to give them faith, hope, and resilience during their roughest challenges.

Mine Tonight/ Don’t Take My Love Away: these two are tied for second place of favorite tracks. Though “Mine Tonight” is softer with a twinkling piano melody, and Don’s Take My Love Away has a more R&B bounce, they both are romantic, idealized songs of love.  They speak on the giving and receiving in a relationship with lyrical purity.
