Album Review: PRhyme 2 Is Rock N’ Roll Swag With Rap Finesse

The beauty of PRhyme 2 comes from its sample source: DJ Premier chooses only one artist to flip their sound into his signature soul-infused beats and dusty drum grooves. This time around he tapped Philadelphia composer and producer Antman Wonder to sample, while Royce 5’9” is accompanied by Hip Hop’s most popular acts to create an unstoppable record that feels like rock n’ roll finessed by rap’s finest.

PRhyme 2 is simply badass. This is the album that you play just before you are about to tell you horrible boss OFF. It pumps you up to face your day as if you own it, in part, because  Royce 5’9” is one of the best rappers out there. He approaches his verses like they are necks he is cracking to leave rhymes headless. He is both brutal and beautiful in his capacity to construct lyrics that deconstruct your mind. Tracks like, “Black History”, “My Calling”, and “Rock It” have him blazing through words as if he literally speaks fire, which leaves you LIT when he is accompanied by the likes of Dave East, Rapsody, and 2 Chainz. Still,  Royce 5’9” only shines so bright because Premier’s beats are an undeniable fuel.
PRhyme – Rock It

Listening to mixes such as W.O.W. (WITH OUT WARNING) (f. YELAWOLF),Made Man (f. BIG K.R.I.T. + Denaun Porter), “Do Ya Thang”, and Gotta Love It (f. CEE-LO Green + Brady Watt), I thought Premier was a literal, Hip Hop genius. He creates mixes that make you feel like YOU have talent. From “Streets At Night” to “Era”, you feel like you are watching sound take shape, and become architectural platforms for rappers to build your exhilaration. Let me put it this way, DJ Premier is so good at creating and, in this case, re-imagining beats, you walk away feeling like you NEED to either be a DJ, Rapper, or Hip Hop connoisseur. You know something is good when it make you feel like you want to either be  it. Buy PRhyme 2 On March 16 Click Here.
