Album Review: Russo Want To Feel Happy Having A “House With A Pool”
Russo has been described as the future of punk-pop, which is ironic because they are retro in essence. Their new EP, House With A Pool, may sound like the material, “American Dream” we all have, but their desires are spiritually upped to represent the newer, younger generations awareness of a need to feel better. Sure, I may I want a nice a home, a good relationship, and even in a chic outfit to rock at a Sunday brunch, but does that mean I am connected to what I have?
From “Ghost” to “Bad Things”, Russo consistently approache the desire to devour life. We all want to FEEL what we have as if it incarnates within us. From the things we own to the people we THINK we own, lead singer Callin Russo rolls her vocals from her tongue as if they are emotions spinning down her mind’s mountain. She has a subtle, childlike inquisitiveness as she sings of being “Lonely”, but then goes off on wanting a “Joyride”, being a “Loudmouth”, and the general desire to be “big” in life. Yet, there is a difference between bigger and better, which is why Russo’s House With A Pool toys between that natural “ego versus soul” battle that makes humanity struggle between wanting to be apart of life while also thinking it needs to be Life, Itself.
Russo – Loudmouth
Yes, I got pretty analytical about Russo’s EP, but I felt compelled. Listening to their work, it is easy to get wrapped in its party-punk style; zipping through electro-beats and synths as if life could be a joyous episode of Carpool Karaoke. Yet, in life, we only sing our songs/ tell our stories with emotion and glee because such vivacity pushes us to drive our tale forward. Thus, House With A Pool is a cool, brisk EP that talks about how to feel spiritually connected to our material worlds. For More Information On Russo And To Buy House With A Pool Click Here.
