Artist Close-Up: Grimes Devours Pop Sensibilities

Grimes is a pop combination of madness and glitz.  She is extra-terrestrial glamour as she uses high-fashion and color to give herself an otherworldly vibe. When you hear her music, it hits you like a speedball. It is vivid, fast, and straight to your pop sensibility.

Seeing the passion and art she puts into her performances explains why Grimes is hitting the “creme” of the festival circuit (i.e. Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza.) Her rise as an artist is completely based on her uniqueness. Grimes is unlike any artist out there in the sense that she is 100% herself, for however weird or unique that is.  This has led her to gain a following that sees her as a cool, dynamic energy, and a force for self-empowerment.

Grimes stands alone as an artist. Her song “Kill V Maim” is like a bubblegum version of the film Natural Born Killers. It is electric and in your face, which is typical of Grimes’ demeanor. Her other hits like “Oblivion” and “Flesh Without Blood” have the synthetic rhythms of a cheer anthem gone mad, which is part of her attraction. She makes you want to get up and dance like you are crazy. She goes straight for the inner outcast we all have and tells it that it’s okay to be weird: What is normal, anyway? Her newest track and self-directed video “California” is a lighter note for the star. She is still as wild and eccentric, yet the music has aerial beat that welcomes you more into her world.
