Book Review: Karen Salmansohn’s Friends Forever Wherever Whenever

Karen Salmansohn’s Friends Forever Wherever Whenever is sappy, cheesy, and absolutely wonderful because of it. This book is splashy celebration of what it is to find “your person”. They always say friends are the family you choose, and Salmansohn has created a picture book that explains why a chosen bond can be more powerful than a shared, blood line.

I’ll leave it to one of the first lines in this book to describe its excellence, and friendship’s worth as well, “If you have a friend you can be weird around then you have everything.” This is a SOLID truth, and one that resonates throughout the entire picture book. As lattes, smiles, clouds, hugs, kisses, etc. soar in images throughout the book, you find yourself laughing to yourself. It is amazing how simply, yet vastly Salmansohn understands the amazingness that is friendship. It is not easy to put into words or pictures what a good friend means to you, but Friends Forever Wherever Whenever does.

Friends Forever Wherever Whenever feels like a cross between a picture book and a prolonged hallmark card/ love letter to your best buddy. I HIGHLY recommend it as a gift for your best girlfriend, especially if your friend is a sensitive sap, like myself, who cries during Pixar films. I cry when I am both sad and happy, and Friends Forever Wherever Whenever will make you tear up with joy. It is both an honor and sign of good luck to have a great friend, and Salmansohn does not take that for granted. More then artful images, she has created quotes that you pluck out to remember someone in this world understands you, and you chose them.

As Euripedes says, “One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives.” Congrats Karen Salmansohn on creating a clear, bright, and an empowering celebration of friendship, which we all need.
