Concert Review: Aisha Badru Promotes Kindness At Rockwood
Sometimes, life sends you signs that you are on the right path. They are small but poignant because they are meant for you to understand. Aisha Badru’s Rockwood show felt like a sign for all listeners; your dreams are not supposed to be easy, but they are meant to be yours.
Ms. Badru’s verses are like a series of philosophical adages. I kept on seeing Socrates, in my head, with a pen and paper looking at the songstress and taking notes on how to be happy. Badru’s songs are the ones you play when you want to be mindful. Either accompanied by soft, piano melodies or light, simple guitar chords, her focus is on her words, which stem from her self-healing. She took a bold step in choosing to be a singer, against her father’s will, and the loneliness of choosing what you love. Badru admitted that it has taken a lot of hard times to write her album, Pendulum, but those times taught her two things: to be kind to herself and that it is her human responsibility to be kind to others.
From donating money to a family in Bali to seeing her music in a car commercial in Nigeria, Badru has given all forms of kindness and hope that everything is possible as long as you share your heart with the universe/ others. In some ways, her candor and ease at sweetness is central to her music. Songs like, “Waiting Around”, “Fossil Fuels”, “Splintered”, and “Bridges” were like cocoa to our wintered souls. They offered such comfort and depth, particularly, because Aisha Badru has one of the most distinct, rich voices you will hear.
Aisha Badru’s voice feels like a combination of all the earth’s greatest resources mixed with all of humanity’s greatest virtues; making her both land and sky. Ultimately, Badru was perfect for Rockwood lounge, and those who enjoy a balance of intimacy and intensity in there music. For More Information On Aisha Badu Click Here.
