Concert Review: Ben Talmi Is A Millennial Guru At Baby’s All Right

Ben Talmi is the type of show you see when you want to be okay with life. Most artists aim for feeling great, excited, and fun, which are all emotions you will feel with Ben Talmi. Yet, he plants his performance with a grounded acceptance that life is something you take one day at a time.

Playing off his new, EXCELLENT record, My Art Of Almost , the ambiance of Baby’s All Right became one of electro-thoughtfulness. Song such as, “Play”, “I Know It’s True”, and “Easy” were all about feeling so close to being “better” in and at life, but also feeling so distant from said idea. Lyrically, Talmi is always reaching for peace, love, and acceptance in whatever situation he finds himself, which is why he uses his presence to seem as if he “reaching” above all of us. He closes his eyes and sees both his dreams and issues as he sings them over instrumentals that range from invigorating to lulling. He smiles and speaks in moments that make him seem like a “millennial guru”. Here is this young man composing songs such as the beautiful, “Perfect Day”, that show how feeling great comes in moments, but feeling okay should be a standard. This rightfully may seem like a downgrade, but anger and happiness are two opposite, extreme emotions, that come in instances. Yet, everyone needs a base of calm and openness that allows both sentiments to range within them, and Talmi’s music is the sonic form of such a base. Though hi preps and delivers a note with a every vocal chord in his body, to the point of turning red, his ultimate vibe is, again, of peace….or at least discovering it.

Talmi’s voice is so soothing I had to lean on the wall of Baby’s All Right. His vocal chords might as well spew incense with how sweet and calmingly they spread into the atmosphere. While, when you think of soulful music, you imagine belted vocals and elaborate orchestrations, Talmi goes for the quietness of spirituality, which made me a little teary- eyed. I like music that is gorgeous and accessible, while also being affirming and releasing to my heart. As Millennials we all need those artist to listen to when the day does not look perfect, and we need music to help us see how that is okay. For More Information Ben Talmi Click Here.
