Concert Review: BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn Goes Art-Pop

BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn IS NOT PLAYING THIS SEASON! I am being serious. They are bringing in acts, for FREE, that could sell out Brooklyn Steel for a hundred bucks. This could explain why their latest show was packed. After all, where can you see Natalie Prass, Overcoats, and RHYE in one place, for free, and with little interludes of progressive encouragement.

I support BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn for multiple reasons, but the biggest one is for its kindness and activism. Every time there is always speech about helping others, fighting for democracy, and a general promotion of local business owners. It is really lovely and turns Prospect Park Bandshell into a place where people can appreciate the many ways love comes to fruition through different cultures. Yet, this lineup did more than attract a “culture”; it attracted a generation.
Natalie Prass – Short Court Style (Official Video)

The Millies WERE OUT for this BRIC session, and I was not surprised to see my beloved Millennials dominating the place. Overcoats and Natalie Prass are two of the biggest rising artists; giving a sophisticated artfulness to dream pop. Moreover, both have had their own sold-out shows in New York. Thus, you could imagine what it was to see Overcoats sing their cherry-wined harmonies; that dripped over the crowd as if combining voices could leave you more happily drunk than combining cocktails. Natalie Press certainly followed in dynamism with a cool pop sound that made the wind bop through trees as if to nod in approval of her Dionne Warwick cover.  Yes, I know my verbosity is getting poetical, but I truly love seeing people have opportunities to enjoy “creme de la creme” experiences for free.
Rhye – Song For You (Music Video)

I always say BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn’s “freeness” does not deplete its high quality, and Rhye gave a show that proved that. From lighting to sound-system, Rhye’s music competed with the night-sky in becoming a celestial wonder. His performance had a strange effect in making people feel exhilarated and grooved into motion, despite, technically having such a light-sound. When combining all three acts, this BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn felt like a bakery display of art-pop. In this scenario,BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn felt like a delicious and delightful as a raspberry puff; you bite in, absorb its sugary jam, and admire that someone could of such a concoction.
