Artist Close-Up: Chloe MK Is A Pop Rebel At Soho- House

I can honestly say that I have not seen too many artists have as much fun as Chloe MK on the stage. At Soho-House she was effortless because she does not see performing as a “necessity” to be an artist. For her, it was like a trip to Coney Island. She might as well have been 9 years old and had her parents come in with a surprise trip to Disney World. THAT is how happy she was to be on stage, which made everyone happy to see her.

Chloe MK gives me TOTAL Charli XCX vibes. She feels happily rebellious; someone that sees harmless confidence and laughter as the the most rebellious tools in our pockets. She is humble and personable, which makes her come off as uniquely wild. It is amazing to live in a world where someone being happy and genuinely accessible to others feels surreal, but it is to Chloe MK’s advantage. In another person, with a smaller personality, her pizzazz and perkiness would have felt silly and meant for a Nickelodeon special. Yet, her energy proves that smiles are genuine, even when pop is a fantasy.

As she bopped around the stage like she had, literally, been possessed by every Spice Girl, the crowd was enamored. She was GIRL POWER without ever raising a feminist manifesto. In exuding self-esteem and strength, she showed why people love pop. It is an unmalicious, dance event for our ears. Its literally is compared to bubblegum, which might be a nightmare for dentists, but, for the rest of us, is a delicious dream. Celebrating her new EP, aptly titled Fantasy, Chloe MK felt like optimism incarnate. Her voice was simple, bright, and glazed through every song like sugar over breaded rhythms. Such a capacity, makes me incredibly excited for her future.

I like to think that if you have an open heart, your talent will go farther. Maybe, I have watched too many “It Gets Better” commercials, but happy people deserve happy accomplishments. Fantasy is an EP that mourns love lost by gaining a fierce attitude. Imagine that! Heartbreak prompting you to put glitter in your hair, belt your voice to the sky, and dance in front of a crowd of twenty-somethings. That is Chloe MK’s life.
